More Reasons to Visit Us (Do you need more?)

On Friday, Roxi and I visited the British Museum to view a Japanese Tea Ceremony. In the Japan Gallery, there is a small Tea House where they performed the ceremony. Supposedly, these can last up to four hours. We were treated to the last part of the ceremony, about 45 minutes. If you have a chance to see–or if you’re really lucky, invited to participate in–a tea ceremony, go! It’s a beautiful and relaxing way to pass the time and learn about another culture.
On an overcast and cold Saturday morning, Roxi, Mr. DJ, and I enjoyed a few hours at this London must-see: The Borough Market near London Bridge.
This is London’s oldest food market. It has been at this site for 250 years, but I think it’s supposed to have been around in one form or another for much longer than that.

We bought some Rosemary, Olive Oil and Sea Salt Bread. We only bought 1/2 a loaf because the thing was the size of a hubcap.

We wanted to buy some of this butter, but we were going to be out for the rest of they day. The nearly-gone loaf in the front was garlic herb butter. It must be really good because it was just about sold out.

We also bought some of this tender, young pecorino as well as some of it’s older cousin, parmesan.

There’s Mr. DJ paying for some sausage that Roxi and he selected.

We didn’t get any prosciutto, but doesn’t it look good?

Well, of course we got some truffles! Champagne, dried apple and cinnamon, and white chocolate nutmeg.

And we are on a quest to find the best Turkish Delight. Roxi liked these a lot.

Next time, we’ll buy an Ultra Chocolate Brownie from this TOWER!

After the market, we headed over to New Oxford St for cell phones. We were able to get one for Mr. DJ and a local sim card and charger for Roxi. I am still waiting for mine. We spent two hours waiting to get approved, since the computers were down (why were they doing a system upgrade on a SATURDAY?!).

Had dinner at the Angel and Crown pub. It was fine–good ales (yes, they were acceptably cold and fizzy, Axeman) and the food was good. We’d probably go there again if we were in the neighborhood. One thing to note about pubs here–they don’t allow under 18s in the bar area, even if they serve food. So if you’ve got kids and would like to settle in for a pint or two, be sure to find a pub that has an upstairs dining area.

We walked home and for once it wasn’t windy. A bit misty, but that I can stand. Here’s the London Eye at night. Wish I had my tripod.

And Parliament along the way. Still need that tripod.
