Dreaded School Picture Day

Why do they schedule them after PE, at the end of the day? Weekend plans? After school, Roxi and I are going into the city to catch another show. And I think we’re going to try for another country walk on Saturday.

"Year of the Cat" must see

You’ve got to check out this video. Matt Savage is a 15 year old jazz pianist. And of course, you know the awesome Al Stewart and the very talented Dave Nachmanoff. I had to watch it twice.

100 Days of Darkness

Ah, a dramatic title, huh? Well I just learned about this today. We had an excellent expat meeting at Roxi’s school–for parents only, part one of three. This was probably the best meeting I’ve attended here. The speaker was great! She told us about what we should expect from our first year as an expatriate. [...]

Snappy new day

On my way from dropping Roxi off at school, I saw a Royal Mail delivery guy on a bike that had a wicker basket in front. He looked like Mr. Mcfeeley from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. And now all I can think of is the song “It’s such a good feeling“–you know the song Fred Rogers [...]

Farewell to the girls of summer

I’m beat, and school hasn’t even started yet. Roxi and I have been practicing waking up early these last two days. We tried starting last week, but we were so enjoying the summer hours that I just decided we were going to go cold turkey this week. Ugh. We have registration this afternoon and then [...]

Country Walk from Box Hill to Leatherhead

We took walk #49 from the Time Out “Country Walks: 52 Walks within Easy Reach of London” edited by Nicholas Albery. This has been a great book for us, by the way. The directions are very clear, the toughness grades seem right, and best part of all, included are directions to lunch and tea! It’s [...]

Long weekend ahead

Long weekend ahead

I found this rock on one of our hikes in Chamonix, France. It’s still there–on the Petit Balcon Sud trail, if you want to try to find it. We’ve a Bank Holiday coming up on Monday. Unfortunately for us, we have a school event to attend on Sunday, so no going out of town. If [...]

Wicked

Wicked

The Wicked stage in London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre. Sorry about the picture quality–it’s taken with my Blackberry. . We caught the matinee performance of Wicked yesterday. I’ve never been a Wizard of Oz fan. Is that ok to admit? The wizard scared me when I was little–his big booming voice and glowing eyes! Anyway, I’ve [...]

Bright lights

We’re going into the Big City today to take in a show. This is the last thing on our Summer To Do list (yeah, that’s pretty Type A of us, but if you don’t set goals…). School starts one week from today–what a short summer break. On the other hand, I think our girl is [...]

She gets it from both sides

21 Books in 10 Weeks (not counting the ones in which she re-read her favorite parts). She would have read more if there had been a library nearby. Right now, she is making her way through “The Two Towers”. We’re off to shop for uniforms today. Everything we bought in April is too tight and [...]
