Snappy new day

On my way from dropping Roxi off at school, I saw a Royal Mail delivery guy on a bike that had a wicker basket in front. He looked like Mr. Mcfeeley from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. And now all I can think of is the song “It’s such a good feeling“–you know the song Fred Rogers sings as he says goodbye:
So, wow. Today is Roxi’s first day of 7th grade. She had a good time at registration, which was really just an excuse to get the kids on campus to hang with friends. She had an hour between registration and her town meeting, so she and a bunch of friends went to the Student Center and ate their traditional Student Center lunch (grilled cheese, gummy strawberries and Dr. Pepper–don’t worry, they are only allowed to go there once a week) at their “usual” table.
Today, it’s low key. The kids were told all they needed today were their planners (diaries) and a pen. They will be visiting all of their teachers in 20 minute “getting to know you” segments, then lunch and recess. The last two hours of the day will be spent on an ice breaker (creating a skit). This is so different from Roxi’s old school where the kids hit the ground running. I guess they have to do this ice breaker session and the outdoor team building day next week because they have so many new kids.
When I pick her up this afternoon, I’m sure Roxi will have lots of things she’ll want to talk about…
I
will
too.

What a WONDERFUL day in the neighborhood. :)
The mental pictures of the postman and Roxi’s first day of school are a tad different from Beaumont’s versions…and no mosquitos?
The pace of life is so different here. More realxed–stop and have tea, carry on a conversation with the cashiers at the grocery, enjoy the gardens on a sunny afternoon, stroll through the park. On the other hand, they drive 500 miles per hour on the freeways and jam themselves into train cars like little sardines.
Oh–I think I have seen two really pathetic mosquitoes this whole summer.
