Cruise on Lake Annecy in August

This is one of my favorite moments from the whole trip. These guys were on break. Judging from their aprons, I guessed they worked in a nearby cafe. What did they do during their 15 minutes? The drank a glass of wine or a coffee (cup and saucer) and said hello to the swans. That’s what I’d want to do on my break too.

A genuine organ grinder. He was selling CDs. Now I wish I had bought one.

I just love wicker baskets on bicycles. I had a white, plastic, wicker-like basket on my first bike. It had colourful plastic daisies on the front that you could spin.

I wanted to do this too. A watercolor artist at a sidewalk cafe. He wasn’t selling anything, just enjoying the scenery and the day.
Our boat, the Savoie. The cruise on Lake Annecy was the most relaxing hour of our whole trip. The lake water was so clear that we could see straight through to the bottom, except where it was deep. The sun was just intense enough for us to get a little tan, but we weren’t sweltering, thanks to the retractable awnings and the cool lake breeze. The commentary on the boat was in French, by the way. It didn’t matter. We enjoyed the scenery and the clean, fresh air.

View of Annecy from the boat.

View of the paddle boats from our boat. Some of the paddle boats had plastic slides built on the back. You can see one on the boat at the far left.
Hang gliders. Roxi said she wanted to try this. I said no way. Mr. DJ said that his mother used to tell him that he could try anything he wanted after he started paying for his own insurance. That’s pretty smart, huh?

These photos don’t do the mountains justice.

Ah, two more things Roxi wants to try: sailing (she did get to try it during an outing with her school earlier this month) and water skiing.
This is more my speed–a beautiful, wooden motorboat.
By the middle of the cruise, Roxi was ready to buy a summer home. She couldn’t decide between this chateau…
…or this one.

I vote for the 2nd chateau because it looks easier to get in and out of.
I love the swans and their swains…This would make a good photo for a Roxi fairytale– not a Grimm one!

Mimsy–Ah you have such a way with words. Indeed, Miss. Roxi could weave quite a nice tale around one of those photos. We feel like such sponges over here. Absorbing. Absorbing.
