There were some beautiful fall colors in Prague last week. Here in England, the trees have turned shades of yellow–not the reds and oranges I was hoping for. Still, it is lovely.
The UK clocks changed today, falling back one hour. When we first moved out to the Shire, I watched a Windsor Castle DVD that reported it takes the clock keeper three days to change the time on all the clocks in the castle. I only had to change the time on the microwave, the thermostat, the little mantle clock downstairs, and the clock in the car. It took me all of two minutes.
With the time change comes an earlier nightfall. Not long ago, I told you that 7:30 was the new 10:00 pm. Well, now 5:00 is the new 7:30 pm. I guess we’ve entered the
100 days of darkness. The early sunset is a little confusing–I almost sent Roxi to bed at 6:30. It seemed so late!
It was rainy, cool, and overcast today, making it feel like Thanksgiving in Texas. This morning I made
Pumpkin Muffins, substituting butterscotch chips for the nuts and candied ginger. Oh, and I added a crumble topping because Roxi likes crumble-topped anything. For dinner, I made all-the-way-from-scratch cheese enchiladas (yes, even the corn tortillas
and the sauce) made with English cheddar instead of
Monterey Jack. It was really good! Nothing like some good comfort food on a rainy day.
I am so glad we had a weekend to recover from our trip. Tomorrow, school starts again–a fresh quarter. It’s going to be a crazy week for Roxi with Halloween trick-or-treating at school on Wednesday and a Halloween Social on Friday. This on top of a regular busy week of school, three afternoons of rehearsal, and one afternoon of riding.
Happy Birthday to our friend J! A toast to you with our new discovery–grog. It like a rum tea. Hmm. That doesn’t sound very good, but actually it’s quite nice on a cold day. This one’s made with rum and boiling water, served with a slice of lemon on the side. Cheers!
Those muffins sound fabulous! Happy birthday, J.
Laurie–They really were yummy. And now they are all gone.
