Last night I had visions of pottery dancing in my head

Holy cow. Yesterday, Aunt J and I went on a three-hour (each way) bus trip with a bunch of ladies to the pottery factories in Stoke-on-Trent: Portmeirion, Spode, Burleigh, Emma Bridgewater, Wedgewood, and Royal Doulton.
Oh my gosh. Talk about sensory overload. We were allowed one hour in each of the stores. That still wasn’t enough time to take it all in. Tables and display cabinets were piled high with stacks of china. There were rooms and rooms of the stuff. But after a while, it all started to blur together, and all those patterns made my head spin.
But oh! I did manage to find some truly lovely pieces. And yes, I’ll use them for every day. And when I move back to the States, I’ll use them there and remember the fun I had with Aunt J and a busload of hilarious (and crazy) ladies!

Hehe, Royal Doulton immediately reminds me of the “Keeping Up Appearances” TV series. Very British sense of humor, my parents love it. This posh lady (Mrs. Bucket, pronounced “Bouquet”) has tons of it and the nervous neighbour Elizabeth is always afraid she’ll break ‘em.
I did cross the 25k mark today. Happy Halfway Day, btw :P I do need to chunk out a lot more, though. And I hope your words will indeed flow next week!
Wow, very impressive!
Two pottery factories per day is usually my limit and sometimes only one esp. if its my father, the ceramist, dragging me to it.
Did you carry the pieces back with you on the bus? I wonder how much heavier the bus was at the end of the trip. ;-)
Nice count on NaNoWriMo, I keep meaning to do it…
Quinn–My dad likes that show! At least if you live in England, you can run down to Stoke and pick up replacement pieces (haha). BIG congratulations on hitting the half way mark! I thought the NaNo message that got sent out yesterday must have been meant for me ;-)
Susan–I think two factories per day is plenty. There were a couple I really loved and would have appreciated a little more time in. But the trip was a good way to get an overview of the places. You know, for next time! And yes, the bus was MUCH heavier coming back.
BTW, it’s not too late to do NaNo this year. You’d only have to crank out about 3,500 words per day to make the Nov. 30 deadline! Hahahaha (the author laughs with tears in her eyes knowing she has to write 2,300 words per day in order finish her own novel).
I with you had a tape recorder of the ladies on the bus!
Lauire–you should have heard us after the wine got passed around. Hahaha!
