Thanksgiving in England

Well, when we went to bed last night, it was raining. Actually we had thunder and lightning, which is unusual for our part of England. Normally we get a very polite, steady light rain or heavy misting.
However, when we woke up this morning, it was still raining. If this continues through the day, I think we’ll just find something closer to home to explore instead of trying to hightail it out of town only to have to trudge around in the mud. Maybe a nice, dry castle would be just the thing. .
We ate our Thanksgiving dinner last night. It was pretty good, but I missed everyone’s contributions to the meal. Also, we’ve never celebrated a family holiday with just the three of us, so it was kind of strange. We spent a long time talking about our extended family and family traditions we missed (and didn’t miss!). I thought we would be really sad and lonely during the meal, but we spent a lot of time laughing, so that was good!
Blessings from our table to yours.
Our Thanksgiving meal: roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, dressing, sautéed green beans. Not pictured: pumpkin soup. Sadly, not present: homemade cranberry sauce, cucumber and onion salad, and my mother-in-law’s pies!

That plate looks delicious but it only looks about half full. :)
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Laurie–Oh gosh. I think this was the first year we didn’t over stuff ourselves!
Susan–Thank you and to you too! :-)
Your dinner looked lovely and I’m sure it was delicious! I have just finished cleaning up from our 29 guests… It was all so good, but I had to buy the pies. I just could not make the dessert along with the 23 pound turkey, the ton of cornbread dressing, the gravy (my mom did most of that, thank heavens!), the sweet potatoes with apples, almonds and marshmallows on top, the cranberry-orange relish with ginger and cinnamon. Someone brought a salad, and someone brought rolls. Despite being on my feet for three days, cooking, I think that I have gained weight. But everyone said the dressing was beyond great! Then we sang patriotic hymns and a few Christmas Carols to start the season. I’m about to keel over–no more cooking this weekend! Mimsy
Mimsy dear, knowing you, I am sure your dinner was gorgeous and delicious! One of the things that I realized when I had to do my last-minute cooking is… it’s hard to cook such an elaborate meal with just one oven. So I don’t blame you at all for buying the pies. I would have too, er, if they sold pumpkin pies here. I suppose I could have gotten some sort of “pudding”.
Now, I hope you have enough leftovers to get you through the weekend! We finished our leftovers last night ;-)
Actually, pumpkin pudding sounds pretty good! And I do have, and did need two ovens! What I did not have was the energy to make pies, too. We have so many people around that leftovers are going fast. The gravy went first…I think I will freeze the rest to use creatively, later. I’m in the mood for something really different from turkey…Pasta? Yes!
Mimsy–We always had to go for pizza or Tex-Mex after too much turkey! This time we went out for Italian ;-)
