We’ve moved and, boy, the fun just doesn’t stop

Well, we’re in! It’s soooo nice to have a little bit more room to spread out.
And as you can see, BT really pulled through and got our Internet up and running fast. They warned that it could be as late as Thursday at 10pm, but look! It’s Tuesday and the world is ours once more.
In other news, Mr. DJ and I tried to apply for our UK provisional drivers license today. To get a drivers license in the UK, you must first apply. Once you receive your provisional license in the mail, you can schedule your written test. If you pass the written test, you can then schedule to take a 40 minute driving exam on a different day. But when you first apply, one of the things you have to submit is recent photograph, unlike in Texas where they take your photo at the DPS office. Another requirement for the provisional license application is you must have someone swear you are you. That person must be a UK resident who has known you for two years and is not related to you. Well, of course we haven’t known anyone here for that long, so we needed to apply for our provisional license in person.
Today, we drove all the way to the DVLA Wimbledon, about one hour from our new house. When we got there, instead of needing to keep our passports for two weeks as we originally thought, the DVLA needed to hold onto our passports for FOUR weeks. This is a big concern for Mr. DJ, of course, since he travels so often for his work. He did call the DVLA yesterday about this and the two people he talked to gave him different answers. Finally, when we were in the DVLA today, the very nice people there told us that we can go a different office (more than three hours away by train) where they will only need hold our passport for one week. Apparently this is where all the passports are processed. Once I find out more, I will post additional info just in case anyone else is wondering about this.
It’s a good thing I didn’t turn in my passport because today because when I went to the post office to file a request for mail forwarding, they wanted to see my passport plus one other piece of identification (like a bank statement or a utility bill). AND they needed every person from my household to sign the mail forwarding form. AND I had to pay about $32 for three months of forwarding. Good thing Mr. DJ was working from home today. I was able to run home for his signature.
Ok, but the good news is our Internet is up, we’re all the way moved in (though not unpacked, but that’s ok), and Trudy is arriving on the 26th (fingers crossed).
