Den Haag to Haarlem, The Netherlands

If you missed it, you can:
Find out why we didn’t go to Germany
Read about my adventure with Herring
See some “Dam” pictures
Look at more bicycles
Come with me to the Anne Frank and Van Gogh museums
And visit Amsterdam’s Red Light District
Here are some photos from our journey from Den Haag to Haarlem, which is about 40 minutes away by train.
View toward the train platforms.
.
Many of the trains are double decker.
.
The area between Den Haag and Haarlem is flower country. These photos were taken from a moving train, so they are slightly blurry!
.
There are incredible colors out in the fields. Mr. DJ said that one time he flew into Holland and the land looked like a box of watercolors.
.
It was exciting to see strips of color rushing past.
.
And the bridges over the canals were charming as well.
.
See that narrow railing underneath the red handrail on the left? It’s a place for you to roll your bicycle while going up or down the stairs.
.
This is just inside the Haarlem train station. A protected building, the station originally was built in 1839 and then rebuilt in 1842. You can read more about it here.

Wow, amazing flowers! And that rail thing looks kind of scary.
Alyson–Those flower fields were so cool. They weren’t tulips, but still… And fortunately, that rail is just for rolling your bike on as you walk up or down the stairs. So as long as you have a little upper body strength and not to much else to carry, it should be ok ;-)
I want to go there.
Really, I do.
Ok, because I was thinking people would have to be circus people to ride atop that thing! haha I’m so dumb!!
Brave Sir Robin–And you will!
Alyson–Not at all! And now all I need is someone to say, “that’s not what that rail is for” :-)
More great pics and I love your new banner.
Laurie–Thanks and thanks!
What amazing colours! Your photos are making realize just how much I need a vacation!
Barrie–All work and no play… You’ve been working hard, you deserve a nice holiday!
You are so observant . . . I never noticed some of these things. (But we never went on a train, either! Because Sigmund was living there, he had a car.)
I get so much pleasure out of your Dutch pics. Do you have something planned for the summer hols?
Bee–I love Holland, can you tell? It wasn’t high on my list of places to visit, but I feel really comfortable there plus the Dutch are so friendly.
I am hoping to spend a lot of the summer on the Continent. Mr. DJ may be getting an apartment in Holland. If he does, we’ll use it as a jumping off point for weekend trips. PLUS the beach will only a 30 minute tram ride away!!
How about you?
I really wanted to move to Den Haag last year . . . but it wasn’t to be. I liked Holland a lot, too.
We are going to visit NY and NH the last two weeks of July, and we are renting a villa in the south of France for the last two weeks of August. Yippee!
Bee–Your summer plans sound wonderful. I love New Hampshire!
