We’re back!

We got in late Saturday night. For some reason, on the flight back, I thought I kept hearing oom-pah music. It was probably just the engines…

We had a great time! There was only one thing wrong with the trip: we happened to be travelling during Euro 2008, which is basically a month long soccer/football tournament. Think the frenzy of a US Pro Football season condensed into one month–crazy.

So the problem for us was it didn’t matter who was playing or who won, EVERY night beginning at about 10:30 PM, the fans would leave the bars whooping, cheering, and singing. Drivers would honk their horns rhythmically and yell out their windows. OK, I was glad they’re were having a good time, but sakes alive! This went on for two hours (at least) every night while we were in Munich. I think won once or twice while we were there because on those nights, the noise went on until at least 1 AM.

Other than that, WOW! Bavaria is awesome. More later…

Can’t wait to hear all about it. In the meantime, I bet you are exhausted and good luck resting up!

  2. Bee says:

Glad you’re back . . . echo what Alyson said.

  3. Barrie says:

Looking forward to details of the trip. ;)

The football/soccer world is always a shock for Americans. Years ago when I met my husband it was at the start of the Word Cup (like the Euoro cup but even more insane) and we happened to meet in China where tv was hard to come by so we didn’t watch it. The English guy that he was travelling with left from Xian, China to travel to Hong Kong JUST TO SEE ENGLAND PLAY. Crazy. But as much as I actively avoid all sporting situations I will watch the very end of the World Cup because I cleary identify now with my captors…

Our first time here! Edward says hello to Trudy and wonders…. was it difficult getting her there? I’ve read that the quarantines have been lifted, but are there other wrinkles one should know about, other than the horrendous plane flight? Lovely blog, by the way!

Alyson, Bee and Barrie–Thank you!I have finally downloaded all of my photos from the trip. I didn’t think I took that many, but put them all together–zoiks!

Audrey–I saw the phenomenon that is “Football” and I still can’t understand it! We were in Salzburg (where the games weren’t) and fans were out in droves to watch Spain v Greece. The city had been turned into a large outdoor sports bar complete with TV screens as big as a buildings. Great for the fans, not so lovely for us.

Pamela and Edward–Hello to you two, so glad you stopped by to comment! Trudy sends friendly wags especially to Edward. It wasn’t difficult at all to get her here. You just have to follow the DEFRA PETS travel scheme to the letter. I don’t think the flight was so bad–Trudy has adjusted to life in England nicely. There are so many interesting smells! Other things to know? There are specifics about the flight kennel size and your furry friend’s ticket is calculated by his weight!
