Dog Days

I am not sure Trudy really likes these warm days.

We’ve had such great weather here lately. A whole month of mostly sunny days! When the sun started coming out in May it was such a shock. I found myself wishing it would cloud over again because all that bright light actually hurt my moley eyes. I’ve gotten used to it, though (and found my sunglasses in the meantime, haha). It has been getting a little hot around here over the last week. You know, maybe in the high 70s or low 80s. Hey, that’s hot if you don’t have AC!

Roxi and I are off to London to catch a musical. I’ll tell you about it tomorrow.

Trudy is a beautiful dog. My Stella doesn’t like the heat either – we’ll clip her when we get back to Maine. She’s fine in England, especially since she swims in the Thames/Isis most days.

I’m loving this warmer weather – it’s more 60s or low 70s in Oxford. The sun perks me up. I still don’t like real heat. Guess it’s good that I call Maine home. How did you manage in Texas?

    Enjoy your musical.

  2. ROSA E OLIVIER says:

piú giú, in fondo alla tuscolana…!?…passavo per un saluto!

  3. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Sarah–I love the weather here, yes, even the cold and wet. However, I do prefer the longer days. Oh, I wilted in Texas. We had the reverse of the 100 Days of Darkness–more like the Five Months of Hell. People do get out during the day, but in general, I did all my running around before 10 AM or after 6 PM. Remember stores that stay open after 5 PM? Or better, 24 hours?!

rosa e olivier–Hello and thanks for stopping by :-)

  4. Emm says:

My dogs are hating the heat! They both refused to eat for a day! I have a Larador and a cross Boxer/Boerboel.

I was checking out one of your friend’s blog… what do you think constitutes an “expat” blog?

Have fun at the show – I’ll read about it tomorrow.

  5. Laurie says:

    Trudy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Alyson says:

Have fun at your musical! I know what you mean about 80 being hot when you don’t have a/c. We only have window units, but that’s pretty typical around here. During the last week of school, we had a heat wave. It got into the 90s. They actually released kids early from school because of the heat. Everyone back home in CA made fum of the “wimpy” New Englanders because we’d go to school in 105 degree weather. The difference was there was central air conditioning at the schools in CA. I don’t blame them for releasing kids here on days like that, when there’s no a/c. Not a very good learning environment.

  7. Pamela Terry and Edward says:

Perfect photo of Trudy! Edward has chosen her to be the recipient of an award. She may pick it up over at our place whenever she wishes!

  8. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

emm–Your poor pups! I leave a fan on for Trudy down at her level, open the windows and close all the south facing blinds. It gets so hot in our conservatory that I actually close that off. As for expat blogs, I guess I would say a blog written by a person living in a country other than his or her own. Ideally, it would be about experiences during that person’s stay in their temporary country. What do you think?

Laurie–I know! When does your Favorite Fabulous Grand Puppy move to Beaumont?

Alyson–I am waiting to get some good ribbing from my Texas friends. But you are right about that central AC. You leave your house, which has AC, enter your car which has AC, enter your destination, which has AC. It’s climate control all the way!

Pamela and Edward–How sweet, thank you! Trudy will be visiting Edward soon ;-)

  9. Emm says:

Hmmm. I was thinking in that case that I would start a sort of expat blog myself then. I’m a South African staying in London so I guess i can post all about my experiences from a South African point of view.

:0) Now you can say you inspired someone to blog!

  10. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Emm–I think that is brilliant (as they say here)! Are you going to use your current blog or create a new one? If you let me know, I’ll add you to my links list. I can’t wait to read your musings!

BTW, are you in London proper? Just wondering how you’re faring with two dogs in the city (if that’s where you are).

  11. Emm says:

We live in a little house in Thamesmead in South East London. It is zone 4 so it is not inner city. We live by a man made lake so it is quite open at the front but we had a lot more land in South Africa for my poor dogs to run around on. Still – we do like it here.

I think I will change my current blogger blog and use it for my new idea. The media blog wasn’t going the way I wanted it to go so i started a new on at http://www.missus-emm.com/wp/. So now I’ll just delete everything here I think and change it over to travel and being a tourist in my new home city!

  12. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Emm–That sounds very nice! I bet they love that water. Allright, I will refrain from asking too many questions at this point. But I can’t wait to read about your experiences. Let me know when you put up your first post, ok?

  13. Bee says:

We went to Hampton Court on Tuesday, and there was a moment during the afternoon that I actually thought: Hey, I’m HOT.

It was the first time I’ve been hot in England in two years!

(However, by the time we got around to eating dinner outside that night it was cool, windy, and spitting rain!)

Can’t wait to hear about the musical!

  14. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Bee–I was just thinking of Hampton Court yesterday. We went in winter and it was soooo dang cold! I bet it is nice this time of year. I don’t think I really understood the expressions “spitting rain” and “soupy weather” until I moved here.

  15. Laurie says:

My grand-puppy is here and we’re having a wonderful time. I can’t seem to make him understand the concept of the snooze alarm button though. :)

  16. Emm says:

You can ask questions!! My dogs are weird – they don’t like swimming! I have never had dogs that were scared of water before!!

Well, I started it. I went to a concert today and usually this blog won’t be about music but I have to start somewhere!
    This is the blog: http://missus-emm.blogspot.com/
We’re off to turkey tomorrow – see you in a week!

  17. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Laurie–Haha! Dogs can be a bit demanding sometimes, especially if they have to go outside! or if the get hungry! or if they want to play!

Emm–You’re off to a great start! I’d love to see photos of your dogs (of course!) and hear about your trip to Turkey. My husband and I were just talking about possibly taking a holiday there one day before move back home. I’d also like to hear more about you in general. :-)
