Wherever you go I will follow… at least if you have a blog

Blogger has added a feature called “Following”. Have you seen it? It popped up a couple of weeks ago, but I had not paid too much attention to it. However, Sarah mentioned it yesterday in her comment. After giving it some thought, I think maybe it’s a good thing.
My reasons for starting Just a Plane Ride Away were two-fold: I saw this blog as a way for our relatives and friends to keep up with us (news about us every day if they could stomach it) AND it would be a great keepsake of our time here in England.
What I didn’t expect was that I would make new friends because of my blog. You know: you comment on my blog, I comment on your blog, we exchange a few emails, and viola, new friend.
I’m pretty new to the whole social networking idea on the Internet, but since my first dip (Facebook), I’ve found long lost cousins and old friends. Why not new blogging friends?
For example, a young man named Juan listed himself as a follower of my blog. He has a very interesting blog of his own called “Hello from Hispania“. Originally from Miami, he’s moving to Spain. His last post was four days ago when he was getting ready to close the door (literally!) to his old life and climb aboard a plane for Espana. It sounds like he’s in for quite an adventure.
I know there are a number you who visit my blog just to read. But if you are a regular visitor and have a blog of your own (it doesn’t have to be on Blogger), won’t you leave me your URL in a comment or list yourself as a follower? I’d love to learn a little about you as well.
In other news, I had to take Trudy to the vet yesterday. She’s had some swelling on the top of one of her back feet. The vet put her on antibiotics and will need to see her again on Friday to decide whether or not they’ll need to open up her sore and see what she’s got in there. Poor puppy. On the plus side, wow–the vets are so nice here! Trudy actually doesn’t mind going to the surgery (the scary English name for a clinic). The vets call her “darling”, “love”, and “missus”.

Wow that is a scary term! Poor dog!
I don’t know much about this following thing either, but I just put one up last night, as you know.
So, glad to be up and connected to you again! I will have to look over your posts that I missed later today. For now, I must take my little one to preschool!
I guess I’d better learn more about the following thing.
And you’ve reminded me–I need to make an appt for our pooch to see the vet.
Poor puppy! They better be sweet to her. Don’t make me come over there! :)
I will “follow” you as soon as I figure out how to do it.
This is the 2nd time I thought I left a comment and it didn’t get published. I was feeling sorry for Trudy and thinking that 4 hour walk might have been the culprit.
Hope Trudy gets better soon. Glad you’ve had a good vet expierence. Our older dog got kicked in the head last week (by a horse) and he has staples in his head and is on a course of antibiotics. Yuck. Luckily, he gets the inhouse guy to sort him out with the pills because I’m not very good with that kind of stuff!
Alyson–I’ve missed your posts!! So glad YOU’RE back :-) And with a shiny new laptop, no less.
Barrie–Oh, dear. Apologies to your dog!
Laurie–The vets are really sweet here. Trudy likes them very much!
Christine–I am sure she picked something up on one of her romps. Her foot looks much better today.
Audrey–Oh no! I am so sorry about your sweet dog. And yes, lucky you that you have a professional at home. One thing nice about England is that Vets still make house calls. I guess that’s because so many people don’t have cars? BTW, my husband told me that if you wrap medicine in a little bit of cheese that dogs will take it without a fuss. I am sure that practice is not approved by the vets! Sending healing thoughts to your dog.
If you haven’t seen this wonderful old English series, you MUST!

I wish it had never ended! Mimsy
Hi there! I stumbled on to your blog a few weeks ago when I googled “Brussels”! I am planning on visiting Paris next summer and wanted to find out about possible day trips – we’re also going to Annecy and I just about fell out of my chair when I saw your posts on that city. I started reading your other entries and before I knew it I was reading your blog from beginning all the way to the most current posts over the course of a few weeks at work(during my lunch, of course)! I just wanted to say “thanks” for the great travel tips and the beautiful photography. It’s been quite inspirational! I’m also an ex-Texan (sadly) and my mother is an artist, who would love your art blog and I’m going to tell her all about it!
Mimsy–I have not seen it, but it sounds lovely. I read some of James Herriot so long ago. I am going to see if I can find those shows on DVD.
Lucylucia–That is SUCH a sweet comment, thank you!!! I have Paris photos to share, but I’ve been a little burned out with my camera (I take way to many photos). I hope to get them up soon. You are going to ADORE Annecy. I think there must be a lot of pure oxygen up there because we were high on life! Of course the views and the delicious French food might have had something to do with it ;-)
If I had to pick my favourite small city, Annecy would be it. Bruges, Belgium would be a close second. Chamonix, France is a close third. I am sure that wherever you go, you will have a FABULOUS time :-)
Thanks for commenting!
