Things that are boiled

This is completely random, but I was thinking about this as I was attempting to shrink our long-neglected laundry pile today. And yes, I did wash a wool sweater–no, not in boiling water!

Such old-fashioned sounding things.
And speaking of hot, old-fashioned things, did you know you can buy hot water bottles at the pharmacies here? I am not sure if you can buy an electric heating pad, though.
So much for my break, huh? My blog is my crack.

You know, I boiled a couple of cashmere sweaters yesterday — well, really I just used lukewarm water — and now they all have really long sleeves.

I like your boiled list. Boiled sweets have always amused me. Hot water bottles are still really popular here. I have a friend who takes one wherever she goes. She has different sizes, too.

You know, I never thought that I had the addiction problem, but I agree: blogging is crack!

  2. Laurie says:

Every time I decide to take a blogging break, I immediately think of five things to write about.

    Boiled crawfish!

    Boiled crabs!

    Boiled shrimp!

Total crack……blogging makes me really cheerful. Hanging out with like-minded friends.
Avoiding doing real writing – being a little bit creative.
Yes, how one loved one’s ‘hotty’ – carried it everywhere.
Even at boarding school where there was no central heating you got to take on to bed.
You can get heating pads but nothing so comforting as a hot water bottle.
As teenagers we would lie around moaning clutching our hotties to our stomachs…….

Bee–I just came home from a little shopping at the pharmacy and HAD to buy a hot water bottle. You never know! I saw a tiny bottle and wondered where one would place that. Hand warmer?

Laurie–Yeah! Crawfish, crab and shrimp! I’ll be right over!!

Elizabeth–Yes, I’ve been avoiding other projects as well… haha! It’s so interesting to get some insight on hot water bottle love. Thanks for setting us straight. :-)

Hot enough to boil a monkey’s bum!

You may think it a strange expression, but I heard the Prime Minister use it. “It’s hot enough to boil a monkey’s bum in here, your Majesty,” he said, and she smiled quietly to herself.

    Bruce–”She’s a good Sheila.”

  7. Christine says:

welcome back, you addict you! Do you have a new computer then?

I’ve never heard of boiled wool before, interesting.

  8. Brave Sir Robin says:

    May I add . . . “some detectives”

    :)

Christine–Sadly, no, I still have my laptop, which has this weird electric aura. I just try to to use it very much or hold it in my lap. It’s still painfully slow–so no big photo posts as I give into my blogging addiction ;-) I gave up on the desktop–it doesn’t have any of my software on it and the mouse makes me crazy.

BSR–I’m not sure I know that reference. Please explain?

  10. Alyson (New England Living) says:

I don’t know if I’ve ever boiled anything but water. I’m pathetic at domestic duties.

  11. Pamela Terry and Edward says:

Oh, I much prefer hot water bottles to electic heating pads! Something so soothing about a hw bottle.

Down here we have Boiled Custard. Yum!

  12. Pigtown-Design says:

    Boiling mad!

And hot water bottles rock. You can even sometimes find them stateside.

  13. Brave Sir Robin says:

    A “Hard Boiled” detective. . . .

    I know, lame . . . .

  14. Susan in St. Paul says:

I never understood why they were called boiled sweets, but I like them. Not as much as jelly babies though :-)

Welcome back from your blogging break, lol!

  15. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

    Alyson–I’m SURE that’s not true.

Pamela–Just for fun, I got one last week and took it into bed with me. It works! And isn’t nearly as worrisome as an electric heating pad. So, count me as a new “hotty” fan ;-)

P-D–Good one! And I’ve never seen these things stateside, but then again I’m from Texas…

    BSR–Aha! Not so lame :-)

Susan–I think it’s literal! But yes, they are very nice.
