Breakfast on a bun. Good grief, did I really eat all that?

Yesterday after I dropped Roxi off at school, I decided I was going to go to Hobbycraft for some last minute birthday presents for the girl. She recently lost her beloved pencil bag and all its contents–a small fortune in pens and pencils. And since I sympathized, I made the effort to drive the 7.2 miles on narrow English roads to my nearest art supply store. In the drippy rain, no less!
It took me nearly 30 minutes to drive less than eight miles. All of you back in Texas are laughing aren’t you?! Well, that is just how driving is around here. Most of the time I was on slow roads through towns. The roads are mostly two lanes, one for each direction. And no speeding because there are cameras everywhere. Like the one that got me for driving 34 MPH in a 30 zone.
Anyway, by the time I got to the craft store, I was hungry. Now, back in the States, I might have swung by Shipley’s or the Kolache Factory or my new favourite place, Panera Bread. But I knew I was out of luck in this particular shopping center. There are several stores but no place to eat. Or so I thought.
As soon as I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed a food truck (I am sure these have a specific name… anyone?). Normally, I would avoid them, but as I said, I was hungry. Besides, I noticed the person in the truck was cooking real-time. That’s a good sign, right?
After a few minutes of trying to understand the menu, I ordered a “breakfast bun“. What is it? Good grief, it is the biggest breakfast sandwich I have ever seen. My sandwich was a 12″ length of hefty baguette filled with two rashers of back bacon, one good size banger split lengthwise, two huge mushrooms sliced and sauteed, a good-sized helping of grilled onions, all topped with a fried egg, yolk broken up a bit of course. Oh my heart! I managed to eat most of it, but about half way through I gave up and ended up picking out the goodies with my fingers and left the bread.
You know what? That thing was GOOD. And way filling. I ate my sandwich before 8 AM, and I don’t think I was hungry again until after tea time. I wish I had taken a photo; it really was an amazing sandwich. Oh, and I ate this in the car, by the way. What a mess!
Next, I really need to go somewhere to try a real Full English breakfast.

It is a total ripoff that you didn’t take a picture. You need to go back there, order another one, snap it, and post it.
Also, I wanted to tell you I’ve been talking about you on my blog. Praising you as fabulous. Of course it was written was before you cheated us out of a peek at the mighty English breakfast bun. So you’d better redeem yourself. ;)

That breakfast bun does sound good, and of course, unhealthy. Tell Roxi to be careful with the new pencil bag, as people sometimes take nice things, no matter where you are!
You just had a full English breakfast except it was on a bun instead of a plate! Oh and you would probably get toast or bread and butter with a mug of tea. :)
The “Roach Coach” is what they are called around here.
Fantastic Forrest–I am not sure I should eat another one of those things any time soon! ;-) And thank you for the award!!
Christine–I know, SO unhealthy. I don’t think it would be a good idea to eat like that very often. And yes, poor Roxi. Luckily for her, I had a leather pencil bag just like the one she lost. However, I was not able to find any of the pens she wanted. A shame, and a tough lesson.
Akelamalu–And beans, right?
BSR–Ha!
No black pud? And I am with Sir Robin… they’re called Roach Coaches. We used to have an annual party at our salvage business, called the Wreckers Ball. We used to hire a couple of Roach Coaches to do the food, and then serve Screwdrivers, Rusty Nails and Velvet Hammers.
Scotland was the same. It takes some getting used to driving there doesnt it? Well I think breakfast sounds ok to me. Sometimes, it does a person good as long as they are few and far between! I love a full English breakfast but in Scotland they served it with haggis and black pudding. YUK! My sister is coming back to Australia after being in England for 9 years. Her children wont know what hit them as they have grown up there. Her son is in his last year of school is staying there – she is devastated of course.
PD–What an unfortunate name! I just looked it up on Wikipedia and saw that they are called “snack vans” in the UK and “chip wagons” in Canada. What fun to have them at a party ;-)
Lilly–Oh, your poor sister! It must be hearbreaking to have to leave her son. That is a great sacrifice. But I am sure he will be fine and probably (boo hoo!) will love a little independence. And yes, I believe I can only eat that sandwich bi-annually. Unless I split it with someone. Not my husband or daughter, though. They don’t like mushrooms or runny eggs (I’m not so crazy about the eggs, but I was keeping an open mind).
HI japra,
Mobile snack bar ? Wayside cafe ? What do you call sultanas ? A lady saw the cake recipe but is a bit stuck as she doesn’t know what they are !
If you come north give us a call and you can sample the full English ( Black pudding and fried bread optional )
That’ll teach you :-D. No, really, seriously, eveytime I eat a full English I have to lie down in bed for three days until the food goes down and the flatulence stops :-).
Nice post.
Greetings from London.
Barbara–I left you a comment on your food blog… but sultanas are golden raisins. And now I must look up “fried bread”!
A Cuban in London–Ok, friend, I know what you mean. I think should eat like a vegetarian for a while!
A food truck!!! Don’t know if I can help, don’t think they really have a name!
your breakfast sounds good though.
Perhaps you’d like to try this: http://www.bbqaddicts.com/bacon-explosion.html
That sounds delicious!!!!!!!
Barbara–Well, it sounds like everyone knew what I was talking about. Too bad I didn’t take a photo though!
Jack–I think my cholesterol level just went up by 100 points just from reading that post! Good grief. But I bet it was good. In very small amounts. Have you seen the video about the chicken fried bacon?
Laurie–It actually was pretty good ;-)
Yum. I love full English breakfasts. Have you not had one yet??
Larger website. As Well pictured good in my new web browser Camino.
I’m glad to hear it works on that too :-)
