Barcelona Views

I don’t think we have spent so much time looking over a city as we did in Barcelona. There were so many places that offered fantastic rooftop views. It was really neat to get up high after spending so many hours in the narrow streets below.
Here are a few up-top views, compliments of Mr. DJ and his new camera.
I know, I know. You are all thinking–THE GHERKIN! Nope, it’s the Torre Agbar, Barcelona’s very own pickle. Jonathan Glancy has an interesting article on it in the Guardian online called Another Fine Pickle: How Barcelona Stole London’s Prized Gherkin – and had the cheek to improve on it Mr. DJ took this photo on the top of the hill above Gaudi’s Parc Guell, one of my favourite places in Barcelona.
That’s where he took this one too. We were up there right at twilight, and wow, the views were amazing. We wanted to poke around a bit more, but we were afraid we’d get lost once the sun set. More on the park another day.
This photo was taken on top of the Barcelona Cathedral, or Cathedral of Santa Eulalia. I liked the different architectural styles captured here. More later…

The water is so blue!
Anonymous Friend–Isn’t it? I think some of it comes from post-processing, but yes, it was blue. It is the gorgeous Mediterranean, after all :-)
You guys could publish a traveler book with your gorgeous photos and insightful commentary! xoxMimsy
Beautiful photos! I was going to ask about the blue-ness also–looks unreal!
Mimsy–You are too kind! I think I am going to pull all of this into a book for us one day.
Kathy–I’ll have to check his monitor calibrations. BTW, was it really wet when you were in Venice in the Fall? I keep hearing these stories about wading through water… I’m wondering if I need my wellies.
What a beautiful city. Always enjoy the travelogues. Thank you !Feel quiite ashamed that these places are almost on the doorstep yet have never visited !
Great pics – I love Barcelona’s Gherkin but I think London’s is better, xv.
Barbara–Sometimes it’s hard to get away, isn’t it? We keep in mind that we are here for such a short time and therefore must see as much as we can. There is a lot of the Americas that I have not seen yet!
Vicki–I wish I had gotten an up close look at the Barcelona pickle. Maybe next time!
Thanks for sharing Barcelona. Lovely city… <3
Sea! Blue skies! Sunshine!
Heaven.
Thanks for the pictures, would you say it was crowded this time of year?
Great shots. We loved Barcelona. The kids called the pickle “the pecker” or just “the mighty penis.” We are a very rude family.
But, in our defense, it DOES look like a penis.
so funny – about that first picture – I was thinking “what is that UGLY building?” I’m so old fashioned – I don’t understand why old towns allow new/modern buildings like that.
Cynthia–Yes, it really is :-)
Em–It was a good break from the wintry weather in England! I do recommend it. The sun put us in an elated mood immediately.
Christine–It was not at all crowded! I really like off-season travel A LOT.
Fantastic Forrest–LOL! Just tellin’ it like it is, eh?
Trying to Remember it All–It is quite a shock to see it. In Paris, all the modern looking buildings are pretty much grouped in one section. If you look carefully at this photo, you can see that there is a definite build up of modern skyscrapers near the coast moving toward the pickle (slightly obscured). I remember walking in the “City of London” and wondering the same thing about the modern architecture. But now I’ve really grown to love it. :-)
Yup, as I have said before…there is more than one artist in this family! xoxMimsy
Mimsy–Thank you, dear!
