Eeww. It’s raining.

Last night before I went to bed, I was watching the snow fall. Actually, it started out as sleet, then tiny specks, then big, fat fluffy flakes. It was very peaceful, and I went to sleep with my fingers crossed for another snow day.
At 6 AM, I woke up and my dreams of another snow-filled day went kaput when I realized that it was raining. When I cleared the rain soaked snow off of my car’s rear window, it was slush.
Sigh.
I just got an email from Roxi’s school saying that all after school activities are cancelled due to “adverse weather conditions”. Hm. I wonder what they know that I don’t.
I’m off to take my chili, jalapeno and cheese cornbread and white chocolate chip cookies over to the Teacher’s Appreciation Luncheon at Roxi’s school. Then my dear friend S is going to come back with me and we’ll have a little lunch of our own here.
There is a sweet little bird on the rosebush in my back garden. Its body is about 3 inches long. It’s mostly dark brown and black with a little white on its head and a white streak in its tail.

We had chili this past weekend, but alas, no jalapeno cornbread.
Spring is coming!!!
Teacher Appreciation Lunches are such an American thing. I’ve never heard of them in British schools – a shame really.
We woke to a lovely new pile of snow, but as the Wicked Witch says, “I’m meeellltttiiinnnggg.”
The girls are out and about in it, dirtying their new ski clothes!
I hate rain and slush, too.
It’s amazing that something as lovely as a snowfall can turn into something as yucky as muddy slush.
BSR–I used polenta to make this cornbread. It was a bit to gritty. Still, better than nothing!
Bee–Do the British Schools do anything at all like this? Our school invited all the school workers, not just the teachers. They had an impressive amount of food. The snow is melting so fast! I did see that “heavy snow” is forecasted for Monday.
Rebecca–It just isn’t as pretty and fun as the dry, fluffy stuff!!
Kathy–I detest the thick ice that’s in our road now. Our cul-de-sac has the last bits of snow and ice and we’re slipping around in it. Melt! Melt!!!
I love the sound of your cornbread,xv.
Lucky teacher’s at the teacher’s appreciation, food sounds delicious!
How different we are – I’m happy the snow is melting! LOL
I think you are due to get more snow tonight?
When I was a teacher I really loved the appreciation lunches!
Yes, yes!
Those are some lucky teachers! Mimsy
Snowing where you are; raining here in So Cal. I wonder what kind of bird it is?
Viki–I found out recently that polenta can be substituted for cornmeal (which we do not have in England). I tried it in November for my American Thanksgiving Dinner. It was fine for the stuffing, but I found the polenta a bit too grainy for straight-up-eating cornbread. Oh well. It was ok. I give myself a “B”.
Christine–I wanted to tuck in myself! It smelled wonderful :-)
Akelamalu–Haha! Well, snow is still a novelty for me. I do NOT like this sleet, however.
Elizabeth–I woke to about half an inch of slush this morning. It is a lot easier to scrape off the car windows than frost.
Mimsy–I think they appreciated it. I am sure it was a nice change from the school cafeteria food.
Barrie–I wonder too. The birds have been singing here for a month now. I keep hoping that means Spring is near.
