We’ll be moving house… again!

Another chapter for our Expat book. We just got word that Roxi was accepted into a school in London, so we’ll be packing up our quiet life out here in rural-ish England and moving into Town this summer.

We are very excited about the move, especially since this may be our last year in England. There are so many wonderful things to experience in the this country’s capital. But oh, the thought of sorting through our things and, even worse, looking for a relatively affordable place to live!!! UGH! I am glad we haven’t bought a lot of stuff since we moved here as I am 99.9% certain that our next place will be significantly smaller than the house we’re in right now.
The excitement never ends :-)

Oooo. Congratulations! And how exciting to live in the centre of London! Well, we don’t live too far out but still. Zone 1 or 2 would be grand. My aunt lives in Zone 2.

  2. Tawny says:

I hope you find a lovely place to live, London is not too far from me, i am an hour away by train, that is close enough for my liking…..hehehhe

  3. Christine says:

oh good luck on your move, exciting and yet there’s a lot to do now. Congrats to Roxi. Looking forward to the continuing adventures.

  4. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Emm–It will be nice to live in town. I’ll miss certain things about living out here, but all in all, I think it will be fun :-)

Tawny–The nearest London station is about 40 minutes away from us, which isn’t too bad. But my husband is a little tired of the commute. And the new school, well it’s worth moving for ;-)

Christine–Yes, lots of moving work, but I’m trying to look on the bright side!

  5. Kathy Amen says:

How exciting! I’ll be wanting to head back to London with every post I read, now!

  6. Chris says:

    Congrats to Roxi!
I’m glad you are welcoming the change. I don’t like moving. I don’t know why. I am really looking forward to seeing what adventures are in store, and all your videos about Roxi’s new school.

    no videos?

    Okay, just detailed photos.

Look, after all we’ve been through, could you do this one thing for me? sheesh.

  7. Laurie says:

That sounds amazing! Congragulations to Roxi.

Since I always tend to see the silver lining, will this give you an opportunity to clean out and send things back to Texas that you’d have to be sending back a year from now, anyway? Now, you’ll be able to do that in stages instead of all at once next year. Maybe?

  8. Bee says:

Exciting news!! I would like to help you house-hunt, as I hope we will move up to London someday soon, too.

  9. Pigtown-Design says:

YAY! Congrats to Roxi! You’ll find someplace special, i am sure.

  10. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Kathy–We lived in London our first two months in England. Well, we were exhausted from our move from Texas, but it was such an exciting time. I am glad we have the opportunity to enjoy the city a bit more before we have to head out.

Chris–Moving isn’t much fun, is it? It takes so much time! But I’m excited to be moving into the city, so I guess it’ll be worth it. You are too funny!! Do you know the schools here are really sensitive about photo taking on the property? We’ve actually had security come and ask us what we were doing. We were cleared because Roxi is a student there, but yeah, they’re really careful about it. I’m glad!!

Laurie–I cannot tell you how excited I am about clearing out a bunch of junk. Luckily we’re only talking a year’s worth.

Bee–I am sure the place we will move into will be nothing too fancy since we’re really looking short-ish term. But how fun that you are thinking of making this move too :-)

Pigtown-Design–Thanks, I think it’s going to be great!

  11. bakar says:

I’m not sure if this is the right spot for this or not….feel free to move it :)

Dh has resigned his position, and we need to be out of our home (comes with job) by May 22nd. We will likely be moving in with my parents temporarily. DD has never lived anywhere else, and I’m wondering how to prepare her for the move, for living with nana and papa and for moving again from there (possibly into another temporary spot and then into a permanent spot).

  12. Sarah Laurence says:

Congratulations to Roxi and good luck with the move. At least England has gotten more affordable to Americans.

  13. trying to remember it all says:

Sounds like fun…Strange thing, all day I’ve been thinking of the term “bed-sit” (can you tell I’ve read too much English chick-lit?). I’m pretty sure it’s the same thing as an efficiency. Hope your new digs aren’t as small as that. haha

  14. Cynthia says:

Living in town for the last year will be a real treat. You can do so much because the 'excitement' will be much closer! Art, theatre, shopping…loads to do. Plus it sounds like it will be a good break for your Roxi! Btw, move with your art stuff…you might get inspired! <3

  15. Susan in St. Paul says:

Congrats to Roxi on the school acceptance!

I know its a lot of work, but moving can also be so exciting.

Being in London could be quite fun, esp. for your last year.

  16. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Cynthia–I can’t wait, and definitely the art stuff is coming with us even if I have to work in the kitchen ;-)

Susan–We are excited. A bit blue about leaving the country (I was blue about leaving Texas, then London, the our place in the Shire…), but we are SO excited about moving into the city. Woo Hoo!

  17. Just a Plane Ride Away says:

Apologies, somehow I missed replying to a few of you.

bakar–Wow, it sounds like you have a lot going on right now. I wish you well. I am sure your daughter will be fine. Children are quite resilient.

Sarah–That is true about England being more affordable for Americans. But as we are paid in pounds, I have joked that pretty soon we may not be able to afford to fly home any time soon! LOL

TTRIA–Before we moved to England, my father-in-law shared an article with us. The photo showed a leasing agent with his arms stretched out to each side. His finger tips were just touching each wall of the flat he was in. That little flat was horrendously expensive! I hope the housing prices are a bit better now than two years ago!
