Daunt Books, London

I met Bee in London yesterday. I like to leave our meeting places up to her because she always suggests the perfect spots for our get-togethers. Last time, we met in Notting Hill. This time she suggested MaryleboneHigh Street.

The main reason we were in Marylebone was for this fantastic place: Daunt Books. A bookworm like me could get into a lot of trouble in a place like this! But I was good and limited my purchases to: This is Your Brain on Music (for Roxi) and Three Cups of Tea (for me). This is a beautiful bookstore and is well-known for its travel books selection. It also has a very Harry Potter feel (think Gilderoy Lockhart’s book signing in HP2), which adds to the fun. I loved the upstairs gallery area.
After a thorough browsing, Bee and I had lunch at a little patisserie not too far from the bookstore. More importantly, we had ourselves a wonderfully long chat.
About the Author: JaPRA is an expat Texan living in England with her husband (Mr. DJ), their 17-year old daughter (Roxi), and their dog Trudy.

I was born in the borough of Marylebone, at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital.
I really must remember to visit the bookshop next time I am in London with daughter no.two.
Lucky you – wish I had been there.
Bookshops are my downfall – what a lot of money I can manage to spend there.
I did manage to get to Persephone books for the first time when passing through London recently. (4books).
When I was a student, I worked at Blackwell’s in Oxford
Harrods Books shop and also
Liberty’s – when they had one
and a very small art bookshop in St James off Picadilly
all the best addresses!
Moannie–I really do recommend it. I know you and your daughter would enjoy a day of browsing. How lucky that you were born in Marylebone!
Elizabeth–Oh my goodness, all those lovely bookstores! And Bee and I would have loved it if you had been there yesterday as well. I had two Persephone books in my hand, but decided that I need to go to the source. One day SOON.
I don’t know if I’m mooning for London, but this brought a tear to my eye…
Thanks for the wonderful pics.
Lucky you having such charming book shops nearby! Sounds like a lovely day.
Ooooh . . . I love independent bookstores!
What a lovely time you had! :)
Oh, I love the picture that you got of the storefront! All of that beautiful carved wood gives the bookstore such a magical atmosphere.
It was a lovely day, JAPRA. I realized, as I was reading this, that I talked your ear off for hours and never even asked you which books you bought!
P.S. I like the way you refer to Town, just like the natives!
You had me at Harry Potter!!
Sounds like the perfect, perfect book store. Oh, to be in London!!
I know that area so well ……
SOunds like another great day!
Chris–You’ve been travelling so much lately… perhaps add London to your list? I think there must be some airline sales because so many of my friends are booking tickets.
Anne–Yes, indeed. These are wonderful shops. It’s probably a good thing that they’re not too nearby, though ;-)
Rebecca–I love ALL book stores, but these specialty ones are icing.
Akelamalu–We did :-)
Bee–I think we could have sat there for hours still! And we didn’t even get to poke around in the shops. But it was so nice visiting with you, friend.
Pamela–I know! It is Charming.
David–Do you? You’re lucky! I was hoping that I’d have next year to discover the joys of all the London neighbourhoods. We’ll see.
PD–It reminded me of our short time together in Oct. London really has so much to offer.
Oh another bookshop! And a friend to chat away the hours. What a lovely day.
Thanks for the comment; any fried of Ginny’s has to be a friend of mine. I love her blog.
I love Daunt Books! I used to work nearby and spent many happy lunch hours browsing inside!
