Roxi, Roxi, Roxi

On Friday, Roxi went to see An Inspector Calls with her class at the New Wimbledon Theatre. Before the show, the kids were allowed to go to dinner in small, unsupervised groups. Amazingly everyone showed up at the theatre on time!
On Saturday, Roxi sat her drama exam at LAMDA. She and three other students from her school went into London with their drama instructor on an early morning train. They each performed two dualogues in front of a single judge. Roxi said she’d rather perform in front of a full house than for just one person. The others said one judge was better.
Roxi is writing another song, this time about for geometry. I think it’s about congruent angles and set to the tune of “Loathing” from the musical Wicked. She also did a podcast in science (on chromosome disorders) and a brochure on AIDS in health. It’s been a busy season for projects. I told her that though projects seem like a lot of work, at least it’s a break from memorization and tests. She’s still working on the Plessy v Ferguson music video for history. The song is written and needs to be recorded. I think they’re filming this week too.
BTW, Roxi got another round of straight A’s. Hurray! To celebrate, her father ordered three pedals for her keyboard. I have no idea what they do except one is for sustain. The other two are programmable.
Still no word from the NL school, but if they’re mailing a letter, it could take a week or so to get here.
We sprung ahead one hour this weekend. It has really thrown me off! How can losing one hour do that?
About the Author: JaPRA is an expat Texan living in England with her husband (Mr. DJ), their 17-year old daughter (Roxi), and their dog Trudy.

What a talented daughter you have! It’s so cool that she has the experience of Texas and England life.
I would think that any school anywhere in the world would be enhanced with Roxi as a student. And how wonderful that she has managed to sustain her academic and musical grades in our [what I would surmise from all the bad publicity] failing school system.
Rebecca–She is very special.
Moannie–You are very kind. We are lucky that she is willing to travel like this. I know a lot of kids who wouldn’t be willing to do it! I really like the school that she’s in now (American curriculum). They teach to the whole child, meaning they think it is important that the kids do well in school AND have extra curricular activities.
Good luck to Roxi! Sounds like she has been blessed with many talents!
Those projects sound more stressful to me than the exams and tests! The podcast sounds interesting though. Congrats to Roxi on her straight A’s and well deserved reward.
oh btw, what/where is that building in your new blog header photo?
Lovely Jubbly London–Thanks, she could use a few more hours in the day, but otherwise she’s having fun!
Christine–I think the tough part is that it’s all coming at once. The house in the new banner is called Somerset House in London. I put a link to it just under the pic (right side). :-)
Do you think kids do more memorization over there than here?
Oh, and I need to add “pedals” to the list of things that prove I’m getting old.
Go, Roxi!!
Julia–I heard the kids in the UK schools do a lot of memorization still. And two of the three pedals came today. She’s one happy girl!
Laurie–Thanks :-)
Congrats to Roxi, and hope you hear from the school(positively of course ;)) soon.
It seems like I am the only happy one about the one hour move! I have been waking up wide awake around 5:30-6 for some strange reason lately, so by changing the hour, it means I am getting up at a slitghly more decent hour ;)
annuca–I was waking up early too, at 5:00-5:30 because of the early sunrise. But I think I was getting a little too used to that extra hour. I got a lot done in the mornings!
