Long, lazy summer days

Amsterdam.
What a great week! This was the first time in years that we’ve taken some time off just to relax at home. No bags to pack, no rushing around, just two short road trips…
The weather was lousy for the most part, however. I’d like to think that was the Universe telling us to stay put, stay up late, and sleep in–ha ha. It’s back to sun and blue skies today. Grr.
We did take two days to get out: lunch and music shopping in Amsterdam one day, and a road trip up to the Zuiderzeemuseum and the Afsluitdijk (a 21 km dam) on another day. Photos to come, of course. The rest of the time we spent setting up the studios (music and art), biking here and there, and hanging out.
Mr. DJ and Roxi are working on a song together. It is a dance (techno) composition with Roxi on keyboards and Mr. DJ producing. I’ll post it somewhere when they’re done.

I love holidays at home and always wonder why we feel the need to go places! If you do want to do a short day-trip, though, I recommend biking to Delft for the day. The girls loved that. Very flat all the way!!
Hasn’t the weather been most unsummerlike? After the heat in Spain, it has kind of been a relief.
I love that Roxi and Mr. DJ share cool hobbies.
Bee, I kind of felt that way too. We’ve been travelling so much these last two years (desperately trying to see as much as we can over here!!) that staying at home and relaxing was really nice.
Love the idea of biking to Delft. Thanks for the great idea!
Staycations can be wonderfully refreshing! I’m glad you were able to have – and yes, the weather was letting you know that you didn’t miss out on anything. :)
Lucy Lucia, I now think it might be a good idea to have an annual staycation! It’s great for recharging. Especially if one is exempt from chores and all other commitments :-)
oh I love your Amsterdam photo, it’s so exotic from my point of view! Those day trips are a lot easier than a week away from home! Just ask Trudy.
Christine, Trudy was thrilled to have us all home 24/7 for days and days :-) And yes, I remember my first glimpse of the Dutch architecture last year. I thought, “It really DOES look like this over here!” Haha!
I love, love, love holidays spent at home. There is always more time to connect on a really good level with the family when everyone is just relaxing.
Can’t wait to see your pictures of your day trip!
Alyson, I used to love car trips because I had my husband cornered for conversation for hours on end. Hee hee! But I’ll take a stay at home vacation too. I like the no-pressure aspect of it.
Look forward to the travelogue ! Prince sends love to Trudie
Barbara, Trudy returns the compliment :-)
I love the IDEA of staying at home and making a holiday but the reality is every summer break. Aaauugh! If I get asked one more time what we’re doing today I’m going to move out to the treehouse.
Julia, well, I think the key is to mix it up. Days out, days at home. But LOL, I know what you mean. And actually, from what I’ve seen of your treehouse, I don’t think that would be a bad idea. How are the mosquitoes?
I had a tremendous time on my non-travel vacation, too.
Laurie, how could you not with such charming company? :-)
Glad to hear you enjoyed your time at home. We are relatively new to where we now live and we go places every weekend. Since packing and planning for trips always seems to fall to me i find these mini-excursions absolutely delightful. I actually get to relax a bit.
Tricia, I am glad to hear you’ve had the opportunity to explore your new home. It must be amazingly beautiful there :-)
I look forward to hearing the song!!
