View from Roxi’s Balcony

Roxi, being the smart girl she is, picked for her bedroom the biggest, most awesome room. It’s on the third floor, faces the back, and has a deep balcony that runs length of the short side of our house, about 25′, I think. One wall of her room is made up of glass–a combination of windows and doors. I love going up there and looking at the red tiled roofs against the blue sky (though not so blue today!).
It’s cool and overcast today. When I woke up this morning, it was raining and 60-degrees. Perfect weather for a “pot” of red beans and rice for dinner. Unfortunately I don’t have a proper soup pot, since all of my stainless pots and pans won’t work on my new induction stove. I do have a new (and hideously expensive, I might add), deep, 11-inch skillet that is good enough for now, but I really do need to pick up a stock pot one day soon. Cooking with one pan is a little tricky!
Hope you all have a good weekend!

Great view!! A wall of glass AND a balcony! Smart girl indeed.
Tricia, I had originally earmarked that room for our art studio, but I really felt like it would make a great room for Roxi instead. I’m glad she picked it!
I love the view!! I can just imagine curling up with a book in a comfy chair on that balcony.
Lucy Lucia, yes, it’s a glorious view! Toss in a mini-fridge for drinks and snacks and I’d never leave! ;-)
After having read the previous posts…I’m totally homesick…thanks for that ;-)
Looking at the pictures of your house (from the Balcony) I assume that you live in a very nice neighbourhood of Den Haag. Are you going to North Sea Jazz festival in Rotterdam??? Ooh..I wish I could and afterwards spend a night at the Kurhaus and have a walk at Scheveningen beach….you lucky woman!!! Have a nice weekend, Carmie.
CT, sorry about that, friend! And yes, we do like our neighbourhood quite a lot. Are you from somewhere near Den Haag?
Sadly, we did not make it to Rotterdam for the Jazz Festival. There are so many interesting music festivals in the Netherlands, aren’t there? My daughter is a budding musician and she was just telling me that a lot of bands she likes play in Rotterdam. There must be a good concert venue there. I must investigate…
what a charming view, quaint. It looks different from England, those roofs.
Christine, it does look different! Both views were (are!) nice :-)
I MISSED YOU!
Thanks so much for your warm greetings! LOOK at this place! I started catching up on blogs yesterday, and today have had no time! But I am spending a good long time here to find out exactly how to say things in Dutch.
You do have a lesson plan here?
LOL, Chris! I missed you too :-)
I am working on my Dutch. Well, mostly I am working on my Dutch suntan, but when the weather turns bad, I will resume my Rosetta stone lessons. Mostly I am learning food words… for grocery shopping and cooking!
Do you go to France soon?
Love red tiled rooflines; makes me think of Greece too.
Jane, I think I need to go to Greece. You know, to make a scientific comparison. Hahah!
Hi Japra
Hope you soon find a stockpot !In the meantime you’ll have to fill up with Edam and Gouda ! !
Hi Barbara, we are eating loads of cheese… but I miss my extra mature English Cheddar that my milkman delivered to me every week. :-)
Your Roxie is one clever lass. That is a wonderful view and the balcony! Oh la la.
btw, your English house looks so much like our English house which was brand new in …1968. I’ll have to blog it for ya.
Maureen, I would love to see that house. I think ours was built in the 1920s, but the kitchen and conservatory were add ons. As well as the master en-suite. I really do wonder why the side entrance, though…
It looks nice! Unmistakeably European.
Why can’t you cook with stainless steel pots on an induction stove?
Emm, the induction stove does something with magnets and sadly stainless steel is not one of those magnetic materials. Boo! I prefer cooking on gas, though I must admit I do like being able to simmer something on low and now have it burn. An ideal mix for me would be gas with one induction burner.
We got those pots as wedding presents! It was a little sad to put them in storage…
That is so strange! Well, I just wonder what would happen if I arrived at such a place and tried to cook!! I have little enough cooking skills as it is! (Although, I am making more and more dishes these days where even I have to congratulate myself!)
Emm, what I didn’t say was it took me a week to figure out what was wrong with my stove. No manual and no internet hook up. Finally Mr. DJ used his mobile phone as a modem and found out our stove was induction. I STILL don’t have a stock pot. Must go shopping soon.
Oh no! See, I’d be like that too. I would have no idea! So did you just put your pots on it and wonder why nothing was heating up?
Yeah, I tried over and over to get it to work… so totally clueless–LOL!
How lovely! So glad you’re settling in, even if the pots issue is a bother.
XO
Fantastic Forrest, yeah, gotta go kitchen shopping one day soon. I’d better go with my husband, though, because on my own, I might come home with a few extra goodies.
