What the heck was THAT?

Apparently, I now live in a place where they test civil defense sirens on the first Monday of every month. That might have been a good thing to tell us when we moved in–lol!

I wonder what we are supposed to do if the siren happens to be the real deal? Better ask someone…

Hope it wasn’t going off at 5 a.m.!

Jane, actually the siren went off at Noon. At least it was daylight and I could look outside and see what people were doing about it!

Whuuahha..hahahhahaaa..I can’t stop laughing…hilarious!!!! So they still do that eih…sooo funny! Wish I could have seen your face, how you would have looked out of you window to check what just happend…Great short post, with a big impact on my mood. thx, Carmie.

Carmie, yes, it was pretty funny. Actually we were very nonchalant about it, thinking it was just an ambulance (a really loud and weird-sounding ambulance!). When the siren was still going a minute later and seemed not to be moving, then I started to wonder… LOL!

You’ll be OK as long as the real deal is on the first Monday of the month! LOL

Sounds like the movie “My Cousin Vinny” – maybe next there will be an air raid siren – I wonder if they have nuclear fall-out shelters there?

That would really scare me the first time, maybe next month too!

    • japra says:

Christine, we were inside, so the sound was muffled a bit. I wonder how loud it was outside, standing right under the horn. Now THAT would have scared me!!

Hmmm, that is… interesting. Do tell us what you’re meant to do when it’s not a drill.

Yikes! What a way to wake up! JAPRA, I’m glad your internet is back and I am really looking forward to hearing about your adjustment to the Netherlands. It sounds like a lovely place!!

    • japra says:

Lucylucia, well, it happened at noon, so we weren’t jolted out of a peaceful sleep. I can only imagine what it must have been like here during the wars…

Lol!!! The same thing happened to me the first time I heard them! And they still give me quite a start every time they go off…
Anyway, should you hear them on any other day, what they tell you to do is, turn all the lights off, close windows and doors and turn the tv/radio on, for they will have a bulletin letting you know what’s going on or giving you further instructions. I guess that in case of emergencies, there wouldn’t be time to print out a “folder”, like they normally do for EVERYTHING over here…. (seen the folder about the Mexican flu?) :o)
