It’s the Queen’s Birthday* and I’ve nothing to wear!
The sky getting in the Koninginnedag spirit. Ok, so I’m a little ahead of myself. I mean Koninginnedag or Queen’s Day is on April 30th–six months away. I certainly have enough time to pull together something fabulous for the occasion, right? The thing is, I’ve got to find something that doesn’t make me look like [...]
Knock Knock
TRICK-or-TREAT! We found these at the big grocery store the other day. I love how they have stuck on faces—LOL. Plus the instructions on the box–in English and Spanish! I was just reading about Jack-o-Lanterns on Wikipedia and found out that though carved pumpkins weren’t associated with Halloween until 1866, pumpkins have been associated with [...]
Ask an Expat: Biking in cold weather and Paris in the Spring
The ladies of Den Haag are very elegant. LucyLucia wondered: Are there special “biking outfits” that people wear when it gets cold? You know, like special water proof insulated pants you put over regular pants? I don’t know why this fascinates me, but it does!! I am sure those coats will get thicker as we [...]
Netherlands: The Windmills at Zaanse Schans

Located just 20 minutes north of Amsterdam by train, this lovely outdoor museum is a wonderful place to sample a bit of this country’s unique history. Since it is less than an hour from our house in Den [...]
Surprises in the mailbox :-)
Just look what my bloggy friend Julia of A Bike Ride to the Beach sent me! This mix (well, in a slightly different package–when did this happen?!?) was a constant in my Texas kitchen. Of course, I couldn’t find it in England and had to find a from-scratch, “this is close enough” recipe. But without [...]
Did you want an egg with that burger?
Lunch at a pub in Rotterdam yesterday. Unexpected… I ate the egg on the side. It did remind me of the Full English Breakfast in a Bun I had earlier this year. In general, though, I prefer my burger zonder gebakken ei (without fried egg). Next time I’ll read the menu more carefully. :-)
France: Disneyland Resort Paris
A couple of weeks ago, Roxi and her school choir as well as the school orchestra performed at Disney Paris. Isn’t that cool? The choir sang three songs–”Time After Time“, “Your Song” and “Blue Moon“. Roxi had a solo in “Time After Time”, and she was quite pleased about it. The kids also attended workshops [...]

When in Belgium…
Always enjoy a lovely beer with your meal. (Isn’t that blue bottle pretty? It’s sparkling water.) And if your travelling companion asks if it is time for chocolate, always say “yes”. ~ We were in Gent yesterday… more later!
