What we did for Halloween

Halloween evening: “just got back from dinner at our little neighbourhood Italian restaurant. There were a bunch of Dutch kids running from restaurant to restaurant to grocery store trick-or-treating! And each establishment was giving out candy. How about that? I don’t think the kids were knocking on people’s doors, though. Interesting, huh?”
About the Author: JaPRA is an expat Texan living in England with her husband (Mr. DJ), their 17-year old daughter (Roxi), and their dog Trudy.

Not one trick or treater here! Never even saw anyone dressed up..it was strange but slowly getting used to different holidays.
Kathy, frankly, I was surprised how many kids dressed up! I did wonder where they got the costumes because I didn’t see any in the stores.
The pizza looks good!
Christine, Mr. DJ said it was the best pizza he’s ever had. It was outrageously good. We’re definitely going back. Good thing we have to walk to get there!
That first photograph is wonderfully atmospheric, J.
We went trick or treating down a long dark lane lit up by the moon. We only stopped at houses with jack-o-lanterns — and were surprised by how many there were this year.
I am surprised that so many houses were offering up Halloween treats! In our last neighbourhood in England, there were quite a few of those “No Trick-or-Treating” stickers on doors. Are they still having trouble with kids with eggs and flour during Halloween?
I love that first picture.
I’m thinking the dinner I’m making isn’t looking so great right now – I want what you had!
What was the yellow drink?
Julia, it’s a digestif called Limoncello. Many of the smaller Italian restaurants here offer it gratis at the end of a meal. Here’s a recipe in case you’re interested: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/06/AR2005120600243.html
By the way, it looked very alcoholic, but it didn’t seem that strong to me–and I don’t drink very much. Perhaps that delicious, but extremely heavy, lasagne soaked up a lot of it ;-) That food was AWESOME by the way.
Le sigh, JAPRA. That lasagna looks wonderful! What a perfectly spooky, fallish Halloween photo for the first pic!
Oui, cher Lucylucia, it was delish, but I could only eat half of it. So rich! The leaves were so beautiful and golden that night… we wanted to kick them around like little kids :-)
The top photo here is so evocative of your Halloween experience! So like our London views, actually. We had a fabulous trick or treat, but it always makes me homesick for… Indiana. All the way from London!
Kristen, I’m so glad you stopped by… now I know about your lovely blog! Glad to hear you all had a good Halloween :-)
