Our Snowy Weekend

Saturday was such a beautiful day. The snow we had at the end of the week was still on the ground, and we enjoyed a lovely blue sky. Mr. DJ went out to do a little shopping at our neighbourhood shops. When he returned, he reported that there were two booths offering free glühwein. Nice!

It started snowing again early Sunday and by noon we had six, fluffy inches on the ground.

Most motorists stayed home. I think the buses were cancelled as well, because it was pretty quiet out on the main roads. I know you won’t be surprised when I tell you the bicyclists were still out. For one brief, crazy moment I actually thought about going out and trying my own cycling skills in the snow. Then I decided I rather liked being in one piece.

The cyclists seemed to fare better than the motorists, who got stuck in some of the thicker, slipperier parts. The cyclists just hopped off their bikes and pushed through. The people in vehicles had to get out and push as well, but a car is a lot heavier than a bike, of course! Luckily there were some nice pedestrians who were good natured enough to lend a hand.

I saw a lot of this: using the bike as sort of a scooter to get through the more difficult places.

I think these kids had the best idea, though :-)

Great pictures….! We left Bremen with snow to come to the States to Utah. NO SNOW here ! Enjoy drive safe and stay warm!
Kathy, I am sure it is beautiful in Utah… Snow or no snow! Hope you’re having a lovely time with your family and friends :-)
Enjoy your winter wonderland. Glad you didn’t go out on your bike, it would’ve been a lot of pushing.
Christine, I am so glad I had the chance to see the snow before we left for Texas. It looks like they’re going to have a White Christmas too. I guess I can look forward to getting a little sun, though :-)
Love your pictures, made me so homesick though. I am Dutch, born and raised in Delft, and now live in Florida. So fun to look at your photographs. Will be back to check them out :-).
Prettige Kerstdagen en een gelukkig nieuw jaar!
Welcome, Evelyne! I am glad I can send you a little bit of Dutch Cheer to you all the way to Florida.
Het is zo mooi nu in Nederland! Ik ga morgen naar Texas en ik ben droevig om deze sneeuw te verlaten.
Fijne feestdagen :-)
Thanks for snow scenes ! What does Trudy think of the snow ? We’ve had a mini blizzard today and it’s bitterly cold-most unusual for us .The roads are quite slippery.
Fascinating story and pics about the locks l
Barbara, Trudy LOVES the snow. In fact when she sees it falling, she asks to be let out so that she can stand in it. IT’s pretty cute. Hope you stay safe on those slippery roads.
And Merry Christmas to you and your sweetie! Blessings to you for the New Year too :-)
I just love the photos of bikes in the snow. Hope you have a wonderful holiday!
The cyclists continue to amaze me. They must have some really strong leg muscles to pedal in that snow. A good workout, I think. As long as one doesn’t fall and break something, that is!
so fabulous! Does your bike have snow chains?!?
Happy Happy yule, my friend!
HA! You know, I wonder if that would work?
I rarely feel more cosy, comfy and satisfied than when it is cold and snowy outside. Yay!
With a nice fire in the fireplace and a cup of tea (or hot cocoa or glass of wine or…) it’s perfect!
I am loving these pictures and maybe thankful for our delay!
LOL, Kim! I know the wait is hard and a bit stressful, but I hope you’re enjoying your bonus days in the States :-)
Go by Sleigh. Definitely.
Love these pictures!
I think the reindeer need to work on their landing… ;-)
I love the bike pictures. I think maybe this is going to be a test I have to set myself…you know…to prove I’m tough. I’ll go to some freezing cold place…north of here I guess…and ride my bike…forget goals where you become a better person…I want to see if I’m as tough as these Hague chicks.
Heh! Oh maybe you could just say you did? I would rather try my luck in the snow than in 90+ degree temps. I wilt easily.
