And drops of a different sort

I saw these in my back garden this weekend. Snowdrops… surely this means spring is near? Daffodils in March and Tulips in April, perhaps? Dear Mother Nature, don’t forget March starts next week. Love from one of your most devoted Springtime fans :-)

Three years of recipes in a pretty 3″ binder. This is my second binder, by the way. The other one expired from overuse!

I was stuck on what to make for dinner last night. I’ve been in sort of a cooking rut this winter, relying more on the old standbys I learned to cook during my culinary renaissance in England. There’s nothing wrong with old standbys, of course, but last night I wanted something new without a whole lot of work.

So I was paging through my massive collection of recipes and I came across one for homemade Mexican chorizo from one of my personal cooking goddesses, Homesick Texan. This recipe had been sitting in my binder for a year–boy am I sorry that I didn’t try it sooner! I didn’t have the guajillos or the apple cider vinegar but I didn’t let that stop me. I just substituted a tablespoon of chili powder (next time I’ll try a little more) and regular vinegar (will try to find some cider vinegar for next time). Y.U.M.

So all of you expat  Texans, if you’re craving huevos con chorizo, give this recipe a try. Better yet, make a double batch of the chorizo, a double batch of HT’s Flour Tortillas, scramble some of the chorizo with some eggs, whip up a batch of pico de gallo and you’ll eating like Kings for days.

Thank you, Lisa!

    I’m so hungry now.

Gosh, I wonder how much more my husband would love me if I whipped up some fresh and homemade Mexican dishes for him? I bet it’s a lot *starts scheming*

This post tickled me because we are definitely on the same page!

I’ve just been writing about snowdrops, too; I always get almost unreasonably excited about them. Sadly, spring weather doesn’t necessarily follow — but at least the end of winter is in sight.

Last night I was looking through a similar folder of recipes. I ended up making turkey burgers — a recipe from my mom, with a Texan twist. You add 1/3 cup of grated parmesan and some chopped cilantro and salt and pepper and bread crumbs to the turkey meat . . . but the best touch is the chipotle ketcup you use for accompaniment. I love chorizo; sadly, my family doesn’t really appreciate it. (They aren’t proper Texans at all.) Speaking of Texas, on March 31 I fly to Texas . . . to experience some proper spring weather and Tex Mex food!

Those burgers sound wonderful! And oh, you’re going to Texas next month! I know you are going to have a wonderful time. I am sure you will enjoy thawing out a little bit after this really cold winter.

Oh you just made my mouth water! I haven’t yet tried out the mexican recipes from the cookbook Homesick Texan recommends, but I think I just changed my mind. Sorry I’ve been MIA! I got a computer virus at work and since this is where I do my blog visits, I was cut off. Thankfully everything is now back to normal!

I wish HT would put out her own cookbook!

Oh dear about the virus! Those are so irritating and such a waste of time, aren’t they? Glad everything is okay now :-)
