Gosh, it’s cold out there!

Those guys must be freezing!
The temps dropped into the 20s yesterday and we woke to a light frost this AM. The canals are semi frozen. I think they’ll probably thaw out later today since we actually have a bit of sun. This morning over coffee, Mr. DJ and I were wondering how people stayed warm in the days without easy heat. It must have been miserable.
Today I am thankful for our radiators. And indoor plumbing. ;-)

Oh yes central heating has so many +++s. I remember a time when all we had was one gas fire to heat the lounge and the rest of the house was freezing!
I hope no-one’s trying walking on the semi frozen canals like they did here at the beginning of January!
I was thinking of all of those Georgian/Regency period films where the girls are huddled around the fire in their thin dresses and light wool pashmina wraps.
Now I know why people slept (sleep!) with hot water bottles :-)
Me too! I missed forced air heating…our floor heating has a hard time keeping up with these temps. Stay warm!!
Wow–you have floor heating? We have radiators… and drafty windows.
Okay, so I’m not going to tell you what I’m doing today. This is the only time of year that I can feel superior to everyone else. For the 9 months that everyone else is having Spring, pleasant summer weather and the wonders of Fall, I feel bad.
No, no! You MUST rub it in. I insist. I’m living vicariously!!
the beach baby, the beach.
oh, I was doing my 60′s thing there…I wasn’t really calling you a baby :)
LOL! I got it ;-)
Somehow I knew you were going to say that! I was thinking of going out to Scheveningen this week but I think I’d freeze my rear off. Hope you have a wonderful time!!
BTW, I loved the pic of your sweet girl on her tricycle. And yes, I did notice she was wearing SHORTS!
Yes, I imagine it was pretty miserable in this horrid cold weather. We moan if there’s a power cut or the heating’s broken. We don’t know we’re born!
CJ xx
CJ, I remember visiting Hampton Court in late November. There was barely any heat on in and my GOSH it was so wicked cold. No wonder they wore fur lined wraps in those days.
Hope you’re staying nice and warm in the UK.
I always wonder how the horses can be out in the cold weather like that, like how much cold can they tolerate? We are lucky to have central heating.
No kidding!! I walked to the post office today and it was pretty darned cold out. My hands were deep in my pockets.
Hello Japra,
blockbuster! great photo!
We just have -7 ° and it is snowing!
Happy WW!and have a nice day! :)
Good grief! -7!!!
Good to see that your redirect bug is cured and no one was hurt by the wardrobe. Stressful week!
Can you skate on the canals? I have a Dutch friend who used to do that as child – went on and on for miles. It sounded magical.
Sarah, the canals were pretty frozen at the beginning of January, but they’re only half frozen now. If they do freeze all the way, I’m definitely going to give ice skating a try!
Heh. I’ve often wodnered if the sun in England doesn’t actually make things colder!!
Lovely photo – I love those horses.
