A rainy Saturday afternoon in Delft

Roxi was in Ankara, Turkey for an international honour choir festival most of last week, leaving her old parents wondering what to do in her absence. Ha ha!

Well, first we drank champagne in the middle of the week. Then we watched a double feature on a “school night” (Zwartboek and No Country for Old Men–both excellent but kind of stressful!). On Friday, we went out for pizza and then to Delft on Saturday. By Sunday, it felt like WE had gone on holiday too, which I guess we had since we totally ignored our weekend chores.

BTW, I think Roxi took some photos of Turkey for us–I’ll try to post them and a recap of her adventure sometime this week.

Meanwhile, here are a few pics from our afternoon in Delft. I tried to take some different pics this time, since this was my third visit. If you missed my previous Delft posts, you can find them here and here.

I liked these gates.

A very stylish postman.

Saturday is one of the Market Days in Delft. You can buy all sorts of things at these stalls: flowers, meat, seafood, clothes, bags, cheese, produce, shampoo, mobile phone cases and…

Stroopwafels! We really only needed one. On outings like this, if you share, you can try more stuff!

Since I was with Mr. DJ, we had to hit the music stores. We were surprised how many there were in this town. We visited at least four. This one (Plexus) was really interesting–they had a huge collection of records.

I saw this poster on the door of last store we visited (I wish I had written down the name because I really liked the store…): Record Store Day in the Netherlands!

Ah, you know me too well. Of course, we had to stop in a café for a little something. Hot drinks again, Julia! LOL

And that’s Kaaskroketten on the left and a “croque monsieur” on the right (really more like a ham and cheese panini). This lunch was pretty reasonable, by the way–about 18 Euro with tip (two coffees, one beer, two sandwiches).

Here’s a short video I took of the Market Square in Delft. When we got there, the church bells were ringing. It was charming :-)

I have to say, bravo for the food pictures. I always gobble up my food, and then realize after that I probably should have taken a picture of it to share with the rest of the world; I guess I’m just that selfish =p

Duncan, lately I’ve found myself taking a few bites before remembering to take pics, so I can relate ;-) I’d love to see some of your meals in China!

I was away from the computer for a week and have missed so many posts! I’m looking forward to seeing the Turkey photos – what a fabulous afternoon in Delft too!

I’m looking forward to seeing those Turkey pics too, Lucylucia! Roxi has been playing catch-up on her school work these last two nights. I hope to get them from her before too long.

Since this may be the closest I ever get to Delft I have to say THANK YOU for the video! Almost like I was there – there are definitely better bells in Delft than here. And…um…don’t mean to be rude but…did you save me any of that croc monsieur? yum. love the gate pic and also on the video my heart jumped a beat when I saw all of the bikes….have you tried hot chocolate there by the way?

    • japra says:

LOL, Julia! If you ever get this way, I’ll buy you lunch :-)

It’s been a while since we tried the hot chocolate here, but it is good!

Talk about a vacation! Those waffles always look so good. I would love to see Delft; it looks quaint and comfortable. Your cafe and restaurant photos always inspire me to do that, and I took some this weekend. I haven’t posted them, yet!

Thank you so much for your comments, and for your words about my building drawings. I am planning to do more along those lines!

  8. I have actually gone up all those stairs of this church, up to the clock and further up. The view is AMAZING!!! If you haven’t been up there… what are you waiting for?? It’s spectacular!
