Den Haag, Netherlands: Koninnenacht
Last night, the Netherlands celebrated Koninnenacht, which to my understanding, is the “party hearty” portion of Queen’s Day. Some of the main streets in the Centrum were converted into pedestrian zones for the occasion, basically turning the middle of Den Haag into a big festival. Roxi and I were invited to a friend’s house* for pre-Koninnenacht drinks. [...]
From London with Love
Mr. DJ has been working in London this week. He sent me a few photos* of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Thought you might enjoy them too. He called this last one “Working late at the Tower”. Who was up there, do you think? * Taken with his mobile phone. Thank you, Mr. [...]
Côte d’Azur: Antibes
I am not sure if it was the amazing weather or the stunning scenery, but we loved Antibes best of all the cities we visited on the French leg of our trip to the Riviera. To us, Antibes was the most “real” feeling–cozy cove beaches, a beautiful coastal walk, and a pretty but not pretentious [...]
Winding down
I finally bought my first bunch of tulips in Holland on Saturday. Shame on me for not buying some sooner, huh? Well we’ve had tulips and other flowers in our house here, but they’ve been gifts :-) The house is so quiet today. Papa DJ flew back to Texas yesterday morning. His visit with us was [...]

We liked the juxtaposition of these sailboats, though :-) We were in Monaco over Easter weekend (April 4) and the city was setting up [...]
Netherlands: Keukenhof (Bulb Garden)
Finally! Finally, I got to see some much anticipated spring blooms in the Keukenhof garden here in the Netherlands. We had planned to visit this garden with Mr. DJ’s parents and some friends from London, but only my father-in-law was lucky enough to make it here before the airports were shut down because of the [...]
Côte d’Azur: Nice
Rick Steves says, “Nice, with its spectacular Alps-to-Mediterranean surroundings, eternally entertaining seafront Promenade, and intriguing museums, is an enjoyable big-city highlight of the Riviera.” We agree! Nice made a fantastic base for our time in the French Riviera. You won’t need a car here; so much is within an easy walking distance. What you can’t [...]
