Wishing you…
…a happy weekend filled with sun and fun! The UK and US will be enjoying a three-day weekend. Since I can claim affiliation with both of those countries, I’m giving myself the next three days off too! ;-) Roxi and her school jazz band have a gig tonight with Amsterdam saxophonist Rolf Delfos and a [...]
Ask an Expat: Men’s fashion in The Hague
A couple months ago, Duncan asked if I could post some photos of men’s fashion. It’s finally been warm enough here that people have been riding around without their big coats. So here you go, Duncan–a small and very unscientific sampling of Den Haag men’s fashion :-) As usual, if anyone has ever wondered anything [...]
Perfect weekend weather
Mr. DJ and I took an anniversary bike ride this weekend. The weather was divine all three days, and it seemed like everyone was out cycling. Well, everyone except Roxi who had a massive English project and had to stay home most of the long weekend. Even the dogs were out! I think Trudy would [...]
These are the days of magnificent sunrises
Or maybe I’m just waking up at the right time. I walked into our music studio this morning just after 6 AM and one panel of sheer curtains in our bay windows was glowing a gorgeous fire orange. Good morning, world! We have another long weekend coming up for Whit Monday. Roxi has it off, but [...]

Would you like the see the Pudding Menu?*
A glimpse of Guildford, England. We’re back from England! And luckily we took the train else we’d be stuck on the island. Lots of planes grounded because of the ash cloud. Mr. DJ was supposed to go to Switzerland today for business, but flights out of Amsterdam were cancelled this morning. Anyway, our trip was [...]
Taking a break…
I still haven’t mastered the art of cycling on slick streets while holding an umbrella. Leiden, Netherlands. Well, friends, I am going to duck out for a bit. Hope you all have a lovely week, and for those of you in the Netherlands–have a fantastic four-day weekend!
Netherlands: Leiden
Roxi and her school’s jazz band played at a University graduation this weekend in the Pieterskerk in Leiden. The church was built in the 1400s and is known as the Church of the Pilgrim Fathers. Apparently, the Pilgrims lived nearby and held their services here. Cool, huh? John Robinson, one of the Pilgrim pastors, is buried here. The [...]
