Eight more days…

Roxi and her school Jazz Band played an awesome gig at The Hague Jazz Festival on Friday. They ended the set with one of their favourite songs “The Chicken” (this is not them, but you get the idea).
BTW, if you have a child who is interested in playing in a band, you might want to think about encouraging him to learn a small instrument that he can carry on his own. LOL! It takes at least two people to move Roxi’s equipment around and maybe 15 minutes to set up. Mr. DJ and I had a lot of, um, fun taking Roxi’s gear back down to the car after the set. I think we’re too old to play roadie… Hey, I think I’ve said that before!
On Saturday, I met a dear friend of mine for a leisurely breakfast at Cafe Brasserie Dudok in the Centrum. My friend is from Houston, but she’s taking two months this summer to work in Switzerland. I’ve known this woman for about 20 years, and we’ve met for lunch countless times in the past, but I never thought I’d be meeting her in the Netherlands for breakfast! Life is strange and sometimes surreal.
Speaking of surreal, poor Trudy either ate a plant or rubbed up against something last week and had a pretty bad allergic reaction–hives! She had to go to the vet for a shot of cortisone. In the meantime, she had some sort of stomach flu thing and was throwing up through the night on Saturday. Poor girl! She’s feeling MUCH better now, but we were pretty worried for her.
Movers come in 8 days!
About the Author: JaPRA is an expat Texan living in England with her husband (Mr. DJ), their 17-year old daughter (Roxi), and their dog Trudy.

the Jazz fest sounds lovely and how neat that you could meet up with your friend like that. Glad Trudy’s on the mend.
Thanks, Christine. We were really worried about Trudy!
The festival sounds like fun! I was going to suggest Roxi finds someone to carry the equipment for her, but I don’t know how happy that would make you or Mr. DJ hehehe
Poor Truddy! I hope she’s completely recovered by now?
LOL Aledys!!
And yes, Trudy is much better, thank you :-)
I played the french horn and the mellophone – both wonderfully portable!Ugh all these posts about being in band makes me so nostalgic!
I’m glad Turdy is feeling better!
Wow, lucylucia! I had to look up the mellophone. I am pretty clueless when it comes to anything out of the rhythm section ;-)
And I hope it’s nostalgic good, not nostalgic bad!
Poor Trudie!! She is not having a good time at all. I cannot believe it is only 8 days!
Emm, she was pretty miserable for a couple of days, but she’s definitely on the mend. Appetite is back and she’s back to being a bug huntress :-)
Holy frijoles! the move is just about here. Hope you have such gorgeous weather when the packers come.
btw, I took up the flute partially based on portability and no reeds to suck!
Thank you, Maureen! We had horrible weather when we moved here–really heavy rains.
I always wanted to learn flute. I played the piano and that just wasn’t portable at all. I’d love to learn how to play the harp… but again, not very portable! Oh well.
8 DAYS? I’m so jealous. Okay, not really. I love the trumpet picture. My son’s trumpet is stuffed in his closet. I don’t know if it will ever see the light of day again.
We’re in the Florida Panhandle. No sign of oil…yet.
Julia, Roxi told me yesterday that she’d like to resume her piano lessons when we move back to England. This is after a three year break. So maybe there’s hope for your son? Is he interested in playing a different instrument? Like guitar, bass or drums? Those instruments seem especially appealing to teens :-)
Please post some lovely pics of sandy beaches. I need a virtual holiday! Hope you’re having a fun time. Glad to hear things are oil free so far.
Poor Trudy!
The excitement is mounting, and I don’t know how you stand it.
Roxi… rocks.
I think you should bicycle a lot after you move, and wear your Den Haag teeshirts.
