GTD: Am I the last person to read this book?

What I’m reading + my battered and beloved Tate Modern mug.
Roxi and I took a break from real life yesterday and got haircuts–16 inches off between the two of us! We are feeling lighter and freer now–ready to tackle exams, two more jazz gigs, and moving, of course.
BTW, is anyone a devotee of GTD? I started reading this yesterday while Roxi was getting shorn. Call me dorky, but I really got excited about Allen’s filing system and the whole concept of a tickler file. As I mentioned before, we don’t have a good record keeping system and I aim to fix that when we get settled in England. Meanwhile, as I’ve been cleaning up, I’ve been piling loose papers into one of those huge blue IKEA bags. They make a really good “in” box, by the way ;-)
Some of the GTD techniques are a little over the top for my simple life, but I do like his system of “next action” and “project” lists. I can see this working for me, a consummate list maker. My problem is I tend to lose my lists–or they get buried in my journal (where I make my lists over and over–LOL!). Anyway, I’m keeping this book out of the moving boxes for now. It’s comforting to think of order while my life is in deep chaos–LOL!
Have a good weekend :-)
About the Author: JaPRA is an expat Texan living in England with her husband (Mr. DJ), their 17-year old daughter (Roxi), and their dog Trudy.

I find that whenenver I try to follow these strategies to get more organised, I waste so much time perfecting the method and then I need a new strategy to keep up with the first one! :o)
HAve a nice weekend!!!
I agree, Aledys! I’m only going to use a couple of strategies from this book and make them my own. Otherwise I’ll never use it because of the overwhelm ;-)
It sounds like it could be a useful book for me. I’m a terrible procrastinator sometimes… maybe I’ll check the book store today… or tomorrow
LOL, Invader_Stu ;-)
Have you seen the hoarding shows that have been on in the states? After watching a show I usually go stand in my closet, look around, and ask myself what I can throw away.
It would be nice if my papers were more organized…
Oh, gosh, yes. That’s funny, Juilia! Well, my house is kind of looking like one of those shows lately. Hahah!
I am definitely going to get these papers in order. It is so frustrating to try to fill out all the expat type forms and have it take 30 minutes just to find one stinkin’ piece of paper!
that looks like a book worth reading and I love your colourful mug.
Thanks, Christine! I am sure you don’t need this book. You always see so amazingly organized!!
I read some of his stuff back when I was working and realized I had implemented many of his ideas on my own and had an efficient work system.
Once I remarried, my own home organization was taken over by my dh, and while I don’t agree with all his methods, and it took a couple of arguments/crying for him to tweak it enough so that it gelled with my thinking.
I store my own medical info in a binder fwiw, and now only have issues with art infor/projects etc.
One thing I DO know is – you can’t organize clutter. Stuff has to go first and that purging is a cathartic experience.
Maureen, that is SO true about decluttering. It’s rather cathartic and addicting! That is actually one of the only pluses about moving so often–being forced to clean house every year or so. LOL!
I like using binders for statements. So, how does GTD compare with the course you took a couple of months ago?
An addendum to your post on my blog…Crumpets and a whole pack of Lurpak unsalted…Heaven!
Oh dearie me. Yes ma’am!!
My sister-in-law got us started on a very once in a while habit when she visited us a couple of months ago. A crumpet, so nicely toasted, spread with a little butter and topped with English cheddar. Totally excessive, but major swoon!
