Hup Holland Hup!!

World Cup fever! Click here to hear “Hup Holland Hup”. Dutch Word of the Day does a great job explaining this fun song :-)

These are the current freebies from the grocer Albert Heijn. They are fuzzy creatures with bendable (wired) bodies. When the cashier gave these Beesies to me, he said: “Red, white and blue, the colours of Holland. And two orange ones. Enjoy your toys!” I brought them home to show Mr. DJ and he asked if they were supposed to be shrimp. LOL!

Maybe this can explain it. Or maybe this commercial?

The World Cup is a BIG DEAL on this side of the pond. Two years ago when we were in Munich, there was a party in the streets every night. Lots of people leaving the bars quite drunk, er, happy and singing loudly. People were driving by our hotel and honking horns at 1 AM. Crazy fans! In Salzburg, the entire old town had been turned into a giant World Cup viewing place–multiple giant screens, bands, food vendors, etc.

I’m not a big sports fan, but I can still join in on the fun. So for now, Hup Holland Hup! :-)

I find those furry little things from the AH a bit creepy :o) It’s nice to see decorations all over the place – though some people go a bit too far sometimes!!! hehe
The USA are also in the WC, so you can root for both, Holland and the USA! Or for your three countries: USA, Holland and UK! Though I guess you’ll be too busy to actually pay too much attention at what’s going on in the WC!!
    Have a nice day!

LOl, Aledys! They keep giving them to me at AH. My daughter likes to bend them into letters to spell words. The last one she did was “LOL!!” ;-)

I loved walking through my neighbourhood this weekend and see all the flags up every where.

It is nice to see everyone rooting for the home team. And wearing so much orange–a colour I normally shy away from because of the pumpkin factor ;-)

Two years ago, it was only the European Cup, this time it’s the World Cup, so it will probably be even crazier! :) I’m racking up a variety of teams to support, due to friends and family: the US, Holland, Italy, England, and even Argentina. I still have my Welpie dolls from two years ago and now I can add in the Beesie!

“Beesies”!! Little beasts. That is cute. I’m not particularly fond of international soccer but I guess I’ll make an effort to watch the South Africa games.

    • japra says:

I wondered if your hubby would watching the games, Emm. I hope they’re showing lots of South Africa in between games so at least you can get a glimpse of home :-)

:) Mostly, I’m just glad to be in England because it is so cold there! My friend said that she had 2 inches of ice on her swimming pool yesterday!

It’s crazy here too….boy do they love their soccer! Cute new toys…nothing is free in Germany nothing!

Those creatures have a crazy look in their eyes.

I feel like I should be much more interested in soccer than I actually am.

  7. Kathy Amen says:

We are *very* excited about the upcoming tournament, and Holland has always been one of our favorite teams. They play a very appealing brand of soccer and several of their players are familiar to us from watching English and Italian games. Hup, Hup indeed!

  8. Christine says:

I’m not a sports fan either but I do love freebies!

    • japra says:

Christine, AH has had some interesting freebies while we’ve been here. My favourites were the Snow White figurines from last Fall. I still have them!

Oh, I love that commercial!! I’m sharing it with everyone. I think, however, if I were walking by and those Beesies were doing that, I’d have to go back home…
