These are the good old days*

Outside our local grocery store. This pooch could teach me a thing or two about being patient!
Roxi got a citizen award yesterday!
Participation in school and community service
Positive attitude toward classmates, school community
Strength of character and courage to do what is right
An understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility
Promotion of citizenship within the school community through involvement in activities
During a grade wide advisory party yesterday, wooden shoes were handed out to everyone who is leaving this year. Isn’t that a nice tradition? I think Roxi said there were 19 kids leaving from her grade (I’ll need to double check that). And that’s after the handful who left over Christmas. Anyway, as the shoes were being passed around for signing, a friend of each departing student stood up and said a few words about his or her pal. Whew! Pass around the tissue, people.
Exams start today–only French. Tomorrow is history and English. I can’t imagine what it is like to have to go through the goodbyes while trying to study for (and do well on!) exams. And in the middle of all this, The Hague Jazz Festival performance on Friday (they get “Artist” wristbands and get to go backstage–awesome!!) and her summer voice concert next Tuesday (she’s singing four songs).
…
Twelve more days until the movers come.
The gardeners can’t come on Monday because they have to watch the World Cup?!
About the Author: JaPRA is an expat Texan living in England with her husband (Mr. DJ), their 17-year old daughter (Roxi), and their dog Trudy.

What a cute photo of the dog patiently waiting outside the shop!
Congratulations to Roxi and to you, for that award, wow!! You must be very proud, my friend! Good job ;)
Good luck in these last days – got enough tissues? :o)
Groetjes!
Thank you, my dear. Yes we are very proud of our girl. She is having such a good time too, which makes up happy as well :-)
I’m sure Roxi is REALLY ready for the summer holidays!
I can’t believe the gardeners didn’t give you a better excuse.
Heh, can you imagine that excuse working in the US?! The World Cup is so hard core.
Congrats, Roxi! What a great kid. Love the dog – I thought it was part of the ad poster at first.
Thanks Kim! I wanna see Mr. W in his basket too :-)
Congratulations to Roxi. What a wonderful accolade ! You must feel very proud of doing such a good job !
Thanks, Barbara! Roxi is doing all the hard work–we just cheer her on :-)
congratulations to your talented daughter – you must be a very proud (and misty eyed) mom!!!!! and the tradition of handing out wooden shoes is wonderful!!
boy world cup is much bigger on your side of the pond but i think americans are getting more into it — loved seeing the ‘hup holland hup’ clip!!!
Thank you, dear Amanda! We are having such fun watching her grow and mature. Maybe not so much fun watching the apron strings unravel… Sob! But yes, she is a lovely girl and we are very proud of her.
Well done Roxi and parents.
I need to see boxes to believe you are actually moving. I cannot believe I never took photos of that in all the moves I made. The pictures are in my head though.
Thanks, Maureen!
And I cannot wait for the movers to get here and work their magic. I’m just about done with my part…
Yay, Roxi !!
:-)
congrats to Roxi!! Your grocery store looks so cute with those blue awnings
Christine, so many houses and stores have these awnings. I guess because we don’t have central AC? Anyway, yes, it really is cute!
Just read this on the BBC website and thought of you:
“Paraguay president Fernando Lugo has said that public employees will be given the day off to watch Paraguay’s opening game against Italy, according to the Paraguayan TV.”
I don’t plan to get a lot of work done in the next few weeks either 8-).
Ha! I am relying on you, Kathy, to keep me up to speed on the World Cup. I do know that Holland won yesterday–lots of people blowing their horns and screaming in the streets!!
JAPRA, priceless pooch! My dog couldn’t even sit still long enough for me to pay the cashier at our corner store tonight. Good luck with the move back to England! I love your rain photos below. We had weather like that today.
Roxi, congratulations and good luck with exams!
Sarah, I am amazed how civilized the dogs are here. Many people don’t even have them on leads. Roxi saw one dog look both ways before crossing the street!
When the World Cup rolls around, I truly realize that I am NOT European, and not even British. Simon’s employees think that they should be allowed to watch TV at work!
Good luck to Roxi (and you) during the next busy couple of weeks. And Well Done on that citizenship award. We went to graduation on Saturday and they did a beautiful job of honoring the students who won awards.
Hee hee! I am not really into sports, so I have a hard time relating to WC fever. But if anyone wants to give us the day off to read or go to the theatre or a concert, count me in!!
I miss seeing you–hope we can catch up one day soon. Are you still at CH on Thursdays?
