Brolly at the ready

We were in town on Saturday to see one of Roxi’s friends visiting from the Netherlands. It’s been soppy here lately and Saturday was no different. While the kids were hanging out, Mr. DJ and I went for coffee at the National Theatre Terrace Cafe. Have you ever been there? It’s one of my favourite spots for drinks in the Festival Pier area.
We were lucky to find a prime spot under one of the large umbrellas on the terrace. Unfortunately, many of the cafe’s patrons were out in the open when it started to rain. While some of them dashed inside, a fair number stayed put, opting to raise their umbrellas and continue with their conversations.
I really loved that :-)

That seems very British to me…”Yes, there is a bit of moisture…and???”
great picture
Julia, they were totally unfazed. It was a delight to watch :-)
JAPRA,
I randomly found your blog about a year ago as I was dreaming of visiting London. Well, that dream will become reality in about 2 short weeks for me and my dear hubby! I was wondering if you could give us tips on dressing for the first two weeks of September – it looks like it has been quite rainy there. What sort of clothing have you been sporting? What do you suggest? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
Hi Alyse, I am so pleased for you! I know you and your wonderful husband are going to have so much fun here. Do you have a long list of places to visit?
As for your weather question, the best thing I can tell you is to be prepared for rain. We’ve had a beautiful summer, but I know it’s just a matter of time until we get back to the wet stuff. I would say layers are your best bet. It will probably be in the 50s and 60s if you’re here in early September. So I think I’d recommend a shirt, a light sweater, a light raincoat and umbrella would get you through most days with trousers or jeans on the bottom. Don’t forget–bring your most comfortable walking shoes! :-)
That sounds like the London I know and love (with lots of rain I mean).
:-) It feels more normal, anyway.
Thanks so much for the info!
Hubby was going to take his good old American cargo shorts. I told him he’d be sorry! I actually did a lot of homework/research, and have come up with a pretty solid itinerary that will keep us busy, but not exhaust us. I used someone’s itinerary I found online, and tweaked it to fit our interests. I also have a Rick Steves guidebook which has turned out to be really helpful.
These next two weeks can’t pass quickly enough!
Cheerio! :-)
Maybe compromise and have cargo trousers with zip off legs ;-)
Hope you have a wonderful time, Alyse!
Oh that picture is so so British!
I really love it, Maureen!
I really like how they’re going about their business despite the rain!
Me too, Christine! And it was a pretty steady rain.
