They’ll be ready in October

I can’t believe how fast these pears are growing! About a month ago, they were about half this size. Apparently they will be ready to pick in October. What in the world am I going to do with all of these things? Maybe I’ll give a bunch of them to the neighbours who gave us some homegrown cherries as a “welcome to the neighbourhood” gift.
Meanwhile, I guess I should be collecting recipes. Pear tarte tatin, pear butter, pear, uh, pear… cake? sauce? muffins?
Oh, and apparently we have grapes too. I wonder when they’ll be ready to pick? Help!

I have a suggestion for the grapes…wine?!
I don’t have any Useful suggestions. I once had the great idea to help our grass grow – ended up poisoning it – we had to re-sod.
wow, those are healthy pears too. if you have plenty of pear harvest, trying canning some of it, that way you have pear supply for the rest of the year. i harvested hundreds of peaches one time, we canned most of it. jazevox
wow those are lovely pears. Do you have to spray them for insects? Now you’ll have to learn about grapes too, sort of exciting, hope all the fruit is sweet.
You can make pear brandy which requires sugar and a crock I believe. When we were children we THREW them at each other. It was like throwing big rocks.
How about a ginger/pear crisp?
My grandmother used to make the most delicious pear preserves. I wish that I had the recipe for it.
I’ve got some crabapples ripening. Not quite sure how a person knows they are “ready.”
