What happens when we run out of Stroopwafels

(my least favourite)

I won’t tell you how many boxes of Daelman‘s double packs we brought over with us, but now they’re GONE. So as of yesterday, we’re going cold turkey and switching over to 100% British biscuits. A real hardship, you know ;-)

Interestingly, we can buy Daelman’s stroopwafels at our local post office (for non UK readers, many of the branch post offices here are located at the back of convenience-type stores). I don’t think I’m that desperate, though. All of the food in that store looks like it’s been sitting on the shelf for a while. Our local Waitrose sells “toffee wafels” that look like stroopwafels, but they’re just not the same.

Mr. DJ told me that he might have to make a business trip to Amsterdam in a few weeks. Maybe he can take over an empty suitcase and pick up a couple of those huge duty-free boxes at the airport. My daughter says I should learn how to make them. No thank you! I’ll just do without for now. LOL!

Bourbons are my favourite I used to eat them all the time as a kid. In fact, I’d go as far to say that I like them more than Stroopwafles. Please don’t hate me for saying that.

Perhaps you daughter would like to learn how to make them herself? and then show you?

I’d go for chocolate covered digestive..is the top one a digestive? “Digestve? Suggestive..nudge nudge, say no more.”

These make me think of Mexican traditional cookies

Same thing? I went through a stage when I was addicted to them.

Sounds like provision runs to the Netherlands are DEFINITELY in your future!

When Mr.DJ brings home the new stash I suggest that you hide a box for yourself. It’s really not sneaky or unfair; not when you have to compete with the appetites of two hungry teenagers!

Oh Japra, bourbons are my favourite! I just have to be careful not to eat too many these days.

It always surprises me when you know about these British delicacies, Christine! Then I remember where you live :-) And yes, we actually can’t have these biscuits in the house very often. Once they are open, they are GONE!

Hi Japra! I’ve found your blog through your comment on my pic in flickr (thanks! :-) ). Now I’ve spent a little time hear reading your texts and looking at the photos and I enjoy it very much. I myself is a born Hungarian who’s been living with the family in Germany for 22 years now. So I also can feel for the everyday troubles one meets after changing the homeland.
Count me with the fans of your website. :-)
    See you,
    Judith

Hi, Judith! I really enjoyed your poladroid photo stream on Flickr :-) Isn’t that a great program?

Where in Germany do you live? I’ve only been to Bavaria and the area near Cologne. My husband is the only one who has been to Hungary–Budapest for a short business trip. I hope to see it too one day!

Thanks for stopping by to say hello. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

Hi Japra! Thank you for your kind words. Poladroid is a lovely software and currently I really am addicted to it. I hope flickr can cope with that, lol.

We live in South-Germany, not far from Heidelberg – you may have heard of this town. In Hungary we used to live in Budapest but of course in 22 years the city changed a lot. Anyways, it still is a lovely place. I hope, too, you’ll have the opportunity to visit ist someday.

Btw. 5 years ago we spent the holidays in London. It’s a very nice memory. When I see your London pictures I always need to remember. :-)

Wish you and your family a lovely weekend, too. (Here fall is coming up slowly)

        All the best,

        Judith

Judith, I know what you mean about fall. The air definitely has a crispness to it now. And it’s falling dark earlier and earlier. Good thing Autumn is so beautiful.
