Royal Mail Post Boxes
Most of the Royal Mail post boxes I’ve seen in this area are marked “GR”, which I think stands for George V, grandson of Queen Victoria. Here’s the GR box in our old town. I think I need to take more photos of these things. Since there aren’t many bikes around here, I need a new obsession [...]
A few things I saw last weekend
Please stand behind the yellow line. I love this guy’s umbrella. It’s so sturdy, unlike my silly telescoping one. On the other hand, mine fits in my purse and is there when I need it. :-)
Ask an Expat: It’s here…
Welcome Autumn! On Saturday, we turned on the heat for the first time. We would have had a fire too, but the fireplace is in the music studio, and there isn’t a lot of lounging space in there. Still, it was a cozy weekend :-) Saturday, I enjoyed a lovely late lunch with my husband [...]
Mushrooms and Beatrix Potter
I wish I had asked Roxi to put her hand near this mushroom when I took this photo. It’s hard to tell, but this guy was HUGE–at least the diameter of a pie plate and puffed up so big like one of those neck pillows one might use during airplane travel. I found this fellow [...]

Five bunches of grapes, starting to turn red, Beautiful red berries that the birds haven’t discovered yet, And the first sign of the holidays, slipped into my mailslot.
Here’s what I made
100% muslin. No pattern, no ironing, no zippers, buttons, Velcro or snaps. Just free sewing! :-) The stripes are made with unfinished strips of muslin, which I hope will fray a little as the pillowcase gets washed (the back is split so the pillow can easily come out). In other news, there’s a bug going around my [...]
View out of the art studio
More “organized chaos,” which really sounds loads better than “mess”. Thanks for that, Christine! This photo is also for Amanda who wondered if my studio is freestanding. While not a freestanding building, the studio is an addition to the side of the house with a separate entrance. It probably was the back half of our garage–they [...]
Ask an Expat: Settling in, finding balance
The chaos that is my studio. We are approaching the three month mark of our move back to England. And while we didn’t have a lot of acclimating to do for this move culture-wise, our lives have definitely taken a turn in a different direction. Almost as soon as we moved back, we plunged into [...]
