Mushrooms and Beatrix Potter

I wish I had asked Roxi to put her hand near this mushroom when I took this photo. It’s hard to tell, but this guy was HUGE–at least the diameter of a pie plate and puffed up so big like one of those neck pillows one might use during airplane travel.

I found this fellow on the walk we took the other week. Every time I encounter a mushroom on one of our rambles, I can’t help but think of Beatrix Potter, who not only wrote and illustrated lovely children’s books but also spent much of her time documenting mushrooms.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

I never knew she documented mushrooms. I’ve had some of her books ever since I was little.

I guess that is not mini-mint next to it then! It looks like it is made out of clay!

Only yesterday during an evening walk, we were saying with my husband that we haven’t yet been mushroom hunting in the woods. Nice find!!

Aledys, do you eat the mushrooms or just like finding them? I am amazed how many varieties there are! And, being the city girl I am, I wouldn’t know which ones were edible…

don’t think I’ve ever seen a mushroom so huge, a pie plate!

Goodness!! Was it puffy inside or solid? I once tapped some strange look mushrooms with my toes and all these mold spores started puffing out. I was totally shocked.

I wonder if it was edible?
It also makes me think of a hat, for some reason.

I have not seen the movie, Miss Potter. If you have, let me know. I’m sure it must show beautiful views of the Lake District!

Oh I wish I could identify mushrooms like my Lithuanian grandfather. A lost skill.
