Mushroom obsessed

Gorgeous, isn’t it? This is on our pear tree!
I have mushrooms on the brain. It started off the last month when I found a huge mushroom on our walk. Then earlier this week, Lucy Lucia wrote about an amazing wild mushroom lasagne she made using a Cooks Illustrated recipe. Later that day, I decided sautéed mushrooms seemed like a good idea to put on my beef soft tacos (I realize it’s un-Texan, but I have to tell you it was rather good!). And then yesterday afternoon, we got a notice about a Fungi Foray happening later this month.
A Fungi Foray! Doesn’t that sound like fun? I found this link for a wild mushroom safari in Wales and this link for mushroom walks and forays in the London area. Judging from the “Fully Booked” notices, I guess this is a popular activity here in the UK? I have to say I am definitely entranced by the thought.

I am looking forward to our mushroom walk this weekend.
I went for a walk once in old Johannesburg with a school friend once. This is where the mining millionaires settled and it is full of listed old mansions, ghosts and lots of fungi. We saw a massive one once and it was huge and white. We were amazed because if you drew a nail down it, it turned blood red where you’d touched it. Then we felt all bad that we’d ruined this pristine, white monstrosity.
Do you think people actually eat the mushrooms they find? I prefer the grocery store variety.
Gahh! JAPRA! It so yellow and lovely!! And what pretty crinkles. I hope you do get to go on that walk, what great photos you’ll get. I’m actually missing that lasagna, it’s so time consuming though – definitely a once in a blue moon type of meal. I sent it in to tastespotting though, so I’m crossing my fingers they’ll publish it!
mushroom growing on a tree? Now that’s a new one for me!
you’d probably learn a lot from that mushroom foray, like which ones you can’t eat. you may even find a truffle!
I hope you don’t really have mushrooms on the brain. You might start to see things and the toaster might talk.
