Weekend Wrap-up

Weekend Wrap-up

On Friday, I rode out the the Centrum to see what I could see. Mostly it was a bunch of families enjoying the day together. Lots of homes and business flying the Netherlands flag. By the way, have you ever heard the Dutch National Anthem? It’s very regal sounding. I thought its history was quite [...]

Den Haag, Netherlands: Koninnenacht

Den Haag, Netherlands: Koninnenacht

Last night, the Netherlands celebrated Koninnenacht, which to my understanding, is the “party hearty” portion of Queen’s Day. Some of the main streets in the Centrum were converted into pedestrian zones for the occasion, basically turning the middle of Den Haag into a big festival. Roxi and I were invited to a friend’s house* for pre-Koninnenacht drinks. [...]

Winding down

Winding down

I finally bought my first bunch of tulips in Holland on Saturday. Shame on me for not buying some sooner, huh? Well we’ve had tulips and other flowers in our house here, but they’ve been gifts :-) The house is so quiet today. Papa DJ flew back to Texas yesterday morning. His visit with us was [...]

Eeyore weather

Eeyore weather

It’s been dark and gloomy these last few days. Lots of  strong wind, rain, and occasionally some sleet. I wish someone would say: “April Fools! Here’s your beautiful Spring weather back.” [Edited 7:00 pm to add: Mother Nature took pity on us and offered a sun-filled afternoon. Still lots of wind, but I felt those [...]

Roxi in Turkey

Roxi in Turkey

A couple of weeks ago, Roxi had the most amazing experience–she flew to Ankara, Turkey to participate in the AMIS International Honour Band and Choir Festival. Roxi and 12 other students (6 choir, 7 band) plus their chaperones flew out of Amsterdam early Wednesday morning. They arrived in sunny Ankara later that afternoon. Most of these [...]
